Happy Days, 1880–1892
Happy Days, 1880–1892 (1940) is the first of an autobiographical trilogy by H.L. Mencken, covering his days as a child in Baltimore, Maryland.
The book was received with some surprise by Mencken's readers, since, unlike his commentaries on current events, it is written with great warmth and affection. Mencken's childhood was apparently happy and secure, and he enjoyed both living through it and reminiscing about it in later years.

Happy Days (TV theme)
"Happy Days" is a song written by Norman Gimbel and Charles Fox. It is the theme song of Happy Days. It can be heard during the TV show's opening and closing credits as it runs in perpetual rerun syndication.
The song was first recorded in 1974 by Jim Haas with a group of other session singers for the first two seasons. These versions of the song were used only during the closing credits of Seasons 1 and 2, with an updated version of "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and His Comets used as the opening theme. The song was re-recorded in 1975 with different lyrics for both the opening and closing credits for Seasons 3 through 10. Pratt & McClain released the song as a single in 1976 from their album Pratt & McClain Featuring Happy Days. Bobby Arvon recorded an updated version the song in 1983 for the opening and closing credits of Season 11, with the same lyrics as the version used for seasons 3-10.
Pratt & McClain's album version of the song, recorded in 1976, peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 7 on the Easy Listening chart and No. 31 on the UK Singles Chart.

A day is a unit of time. In common usage, it is an interval equal to 24 hours. It also can mean the consecutive period of time during which the Sun is above the horizon, also known as daytime. The period of time during which the Earth completes one rotation with respect to the Sun is called a solar day.
Several definitions of this universal human concept are used according to context, need and convenience. In 1967, the second was redefined in terms of the wavelength of light, and was designated the SI base unit of time. The unit of measurement "day", redefined in 1967 as 86 400 SI seconds and symbolized d, is not an SI unit, but is accepted for use with SI. A civil day is usually also 86 400 seconds, plus or minus a possible leap second in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), and, in some locations, occasionally plus or minus an hour when changing from or to daylight saving time. The word day may also refer to a day of the week or to a calendar date, as in answer to the question "On which day?" The film tells the immigrants' stories as they braved the unknown, from the time they left their homelands, their journey across the ocean, to the moment the doors of Ellis Island opened, revealing the great promise of America.
About the immigration to the USA until 1930:
The history of immigration to the United States is a continuing story of peoples from more populated continents, particularly Europe and also Africa and Asia, crossing oceans to the New World. Historians do not treat the first indigenous settlers as immigrants. Starting around 1600 British and other Europeans settled primarily on the east coast. Later Africans were brought as slaves. During the nation's history, the growing country experienced successive waves of immigration which rose and fell over time, particularly from Europe, with the cost of transoceanic transportation sometimes paid by travelers becoming indentured servants after their arrival in the New World. At other times, immigration rules became more restrictive.
American immigration history can be viewed in four epochs: the colonial period, the mid-19th century, the start of the 20th century, and post-1965. Each period brought distinct national groups and ethnicities to the United States. During the 17th century, approximately 175,000 Englishmen migrated to Colonial America. Over half of all European immigrants to Colonial America during the 17th and 18th centuries arrived as indentured servants. The mid-19th century saw mainly an influx from northern Europe; the early 20th-century mainly from Southern and Eastern Europe; post-1965 mostly from Latin America and Asia.
Historians estimate that fewer than one million immigrants - perhaps as few as 400,000 - crossed the Atlantic during the 17th and 18th centuries. The 1790 Act limited naturalization to "free European persons"; it was expanded to include Africans in the 1860s and Asians in the 1950s. In the early years of the United States, immigration was fewer than 8,000 people a year. After 1820, immigration gradually increased. From 1836 to 1914, over 30 million Europeans migrated to the United States. The mortality rate on these transatlantic voyages was high, during which one in seven travelers died. In 1875, the nation passed its first immigration law, the Page Act of 1875.
The peak year of European immigration was in 1907, when 1,285,349 persons entered the country. By 1910, 13.5 million immigrants were living in the United States. In 1921, the Congress passed the Emergency Quota Act, followed by the Immigration Act of 1924. The 1924 Act was aimed at further restricting the Southern and Eastern Europeans, especially Jews, Italians, and Slavs, who had begun to enter the country in large numbers beginning in the 1890s.

Americanization is the process of an immigrant to the United States of America becoming a person who shares American values, beliefs and customs and is assimilated into American society. This process typically involves learning English and adjusting to American culture, and customs, while keeping the old foods and religion.
The Americanization movement was a nationwide organized effort in the 1910s to bring millions of recent immigrants into the American cultural system. More than 30 states passed laws requiring Americanization programs. The movement climaxed during World War I, as eligible young immigrant men were drafted into the Army, and the nation made every effort to integrate the European ethnic groups into the national identity.

This is a clip from "Hot Stuff", the 17th episode (159th overall) from the seventh season of ABC's monster hit 1974-84 sitcom "Happy Days". The episode originally aired on ABC on Tuesday, January 22, 1980.
When owner Alfred "Al' Delvecchio (Al Molinaro) leaves the local teen hangout Arnold's early, he leaves his teenage ward and fry cook Charles "Chachi" Arcola (Scott Baio) in charge. After Joanie Cunnngham (Erin Moran) finally (after several past rejections) accepts a date with Chachi, Chachi becomes so overwhelmed with joy that he puts his feelings for Joanie in the way of responsibility, leaving the kitchen grill on and throwing his apron on the grill when he leaves, causing Arnold's to go up in flames.
Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli (Henry Winkler), Warren "Potsie" Weber (Anson Williams), and Ralph Malph (Donny Most) get trapped in the restroom; so Fonzie, using his motorcycle helmet, tries to break them out using his head, but gets knocked unconscious. Luckily, Richie Cunningham (Ron Howard), Joanie's older brother, and his girlfriend and Lori Beth Allen (Lynda Goodfriend) are nearby making out in Richie's car when Lori Beth hears Potsie and Ralph's desperate cries for help.
Realizing what's happening, Richie and Lori Beth quickly rescue Ralph, Potsie, and Fonzie by tying a cord from their car to the restroom window's grate, breaking it away and bailing the guys out. Regardless, Arnold's unfortunately burns down. Later, as the gang surveys the damage, Chachi admits his irresponsibility that caused the disaster, which infuriates Fonzie. In the end, however, Fonzie offers his life savings to Al, volunteering to become Al's business partner as they set out to rebuild a more modern (for the Sixties) Arnold's.
This storyline was part of a decision by "Happy Days" creator/executive producer Garry K. Marshall and co-producer Lowell Ganz that the old Fifties-style Arnold's was no longer appealing enough to teen audiences; it was burned down, so it could be replaced with a more modern Sixties-style restaurant, set to coincide with the turn of the decade from the Fifties to the Sixties (just as in real time, the turn of the decade from the Seventies to the Eighties).

This documentary covers the single largest migration of immigrants to the United States of America through Ellis Island between 1890 and 1920. (Ellis Island, in Upper New York Bay, was the gateway for millions of immigrants as the busiest immigrant inspection station of the United States from 1892 until 1954.)
It is the story of Ellis Island and the American immigration experience. The film is a tribute to the 18 million men, women and children who made the long journey from the Old to the New World between 1890 and 1920, in the single largest migration in human history. The film tells the immigrants' stories as they braved the unknown, from the time they left their homelands, their journey across the ocean, to the moment the doors of Ellis Island opened, revealing the great promise of America.
About the immigration to the USA until 1930:
The history of immigration to the United States is a continuing story of peoples from more populated continents, particularly Europe and also Africa and Asia, crossing oceans to the New World. Historians do not treat the first indigenous settlers as immigrants. Starting around 1600 British and other Europeans settled primarily on the east coast. Later Africans were brought as slaves. During the nation's history, the growing country experienced successive waves of immigration which rose and fell over time, particularly from Europe, with the cost of transoceanic transportation sometimes paid by travelers becoming indentured servants after their arrival in the New World. At other times, immigration rules became more restrictive.
American immigration history can be viewed in four epochs: the colonial period, the mid-19th century, the start of the 20th century, and post-1965. Each period brought distinct national groups and ethnicities to the United States. During the 17th century, approximately 175,000 Englishmen migrated to Colonial America. Over half of all European immigrants to Colonial America during the 17th and 18th centuries arrived as indentured servants. The mid-19th century saw mainly an influx from northern Europe; the early 20th-century mainly from Southern and Eastern Europe; post-1965 mostly from Latin America and Asia.
Historians estimate that fewer than one million immigrants - perhaps as few as 400,000 - crossed the Atlantic during the 17th and 18th centuries. The 1790 Act limited naturalization to "free European persons"; it was expanded to include Africans in the 1860s and Asians in the 1950s. In the early years of the United States, immigration was fewer than 8,000 people a year. After 1820, immigration gradually increased. From 1836 to 1914, over 30 million Europeans migrated to the United States. The mortality rate on these transatlantic voyages was high, during which one in seven travelers died. In 1875, the nation passed its first immigration law, the Page Act of 1875.
The peak year of European immigration was in 1907, when 1,285,349 persons entered the country. By 1910, 13.5 million immigrants were living in the United States. In 1921, the Congress passed the Emergency Quota Act, followed by the Immigration Act of 1924. The 1924 Act was aimed at further restricting the Southern and Eastern Europeans, especially Jews, Italians, and Slavs, who had begun to enter the country in large numbers beginning in the 1890s.
About the Americanization in the 1910s and 1920s:
Americanization is the process of an immigrant to the United States of America becoming a person who shares American values, beliefs and customs and is assimilated into American society. This process typically involves learning English and adjusting to American culture, and customs, while keeping the old foods and religion.
The Americanization movement was a nationwide organized effort in the 1910s to bring millions of recent immigrants into the American cultural system. More than 30 states passed laws requiring Americanization programs. The movement climaxed during World War I, as eligible young immigrant men were drafted into the Army, and the nation made every effort to integrate the European ethnic groups into the national identity.

Renovating An 1890's Home! | Relocated
Betsy Sweeny is a 27-year-old architectural historian and preservationist at the Wheeling National Heritage Area who decided to take on the task of renovating an 1890s home in Wheeling, West Virginia. Sweeny is amongst a significant group of young professionals who have been leaving metropolitan cities for, quite literally, greener pastures.
Betsy found her turn-of-the-century, “eclectic-style” red-brick Victorian home on the east side of town for a mere $18,500 thanks in part to the Cheap Old Houses Instagram account, which promotes historic homes in need of some TLC. She estimates that her renovation will come to $125,000.

This is a clip from "Hot Stuff", the 17th episode (159th overall) from the seventh season of ABC's monster hit 1974-84 sitcom "Happy Days". The episode originally aired on ABC on Tuesday, January 22, 1980.
When owner Alfred "Al' Delvecchio (Al Molinaro) leaves the local teen hangout Arnold's early, he leaves his teenage ward and fry cook Charles "Chachi" Arcola (Scott Baio) in charge. After Joanie Cunnngham (Erin Moran) finally (after several past rejections) accepts a date with Chachi, Chachi becomes so overwhelmed with joy that he puts his feelings for Joanie in the way of responsibility, leaving the kitchen grill on and throwing his apron on the grill when he leaves, causing Arnold's to go up in flames.
Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli (Henry Winkler), Warren "Potsie" Weber (Anson Williams), and Ralph Malph (Donny Most) get trapped in the restroom; so Fonzie, using his motorcycle helmet, tries to break them out using his head, but gets knocked unconscious. Luckily, Richie Cunningham (Ron Howard), Joanie's older brother, and his girlfriend and Lori Beth Allen (Lynda Goodfriend) are nearby making out in Richie's car when Lori Beth hears Potsie and Ralph's desperate cries for help.
Realizing what's happening, Richie and Lori Beth quickly rescue Ralph, Potsie, and Fonzie by tying a cord from their car to the restroom window's grate, breaking it away and bailing the guys out. Regardless, Arnold's unfortunately burns down. Later, as the gang surveys the damage, Chachi admits his irresponsibility that caused the disaster, which infuriates Fonzie. In the end, however, Fonzie offers his life savings to Al, volunteering to become Al's business partner as they set out to rebuild a more modern (for the Sixties) Arnold's.
This storyline was part of a decision by "Happy Days" creator/executive producer Garry K. Marshall and co-producer Lowell Ganz that the old Fifties-style Arnold's was no longer appealing enough to teen audiences; it was burned down, so it could be replaced with a more modern Sixties-style restaurant, set to coincide with the turn of the decade from the Fifties to the Sixties (just as in real time, the turn of the decade from the Seventies to the Eighties).

In the days and weeks leading up to a show's finale, you might prepare yourself to feel closure while enjoying the last bittersweet moments of a series that you might have been invested in for many seasons.
