British Midland Airways Limited (trading at various times throughout its history as British Midland, BMI British Midland, BMI or British Midland International) was an airline with its head office in Donington Hall in Castle Donington, close to East Midlands Airport, in the United Kingdom. The airline flew to destinations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, North America and Central Asia from its operational base at London Heathrow Airport, where at its peak it held ca. 13% of all takeoff and landing slots and operated over 2,000 flights a week. BMI was a member of Star Alliance from 1 July 2000 until 20 April 2012.
BMI was acquired from Lufthansa by International Airlines Group (IAG) on 20 April 2012, and was integrated into British Airways (BA) by 27 October 2012. BMI's subsidiaries Bmibaby and BMI Regional were also purchased, although IAG did not wish to retain either. BMI Regional was sold to Sector Aviation Holdings in May 2012 and continues to operate, whereas Bmibaby closed down in September 2012.
By the late 1820s, Midland was established as a fur trading post of the American Fur Company supervised by the post at Saginaw. Here agents purchased furs from Ojibwe trappers. The Campau family of Detroit operated an independent trading post at this location in the late 1820s.
As of the census of 2010, there were 41,863 people, 17,506 households, and 10,766 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,242.2 inhabitants per square mile (479.6/km2). There were 18,578 housing units at an average density of 551.3 per square mile (212.9/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 92.0% White, 2.0% Black, 0.3% Native American, 3.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.5% from other races, and 1.8% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.4% of the population.
Liyell Ltd. (trading as Midland, previously known as Choice Travel) was a limited bus company operating mostly in the Wolverhampton area of the West Midlands. Some services also operate in the Staffordshire area.
History
The company was originally started as LIYELL limited established by ex-London Forest manager Tom Young and business partner Barrie Marsden in 1992 with two Leyland Leopard coaches and three Leyland Nationals in a lime green and yellow livery, from which the company got its name. The first bus services operated were route 171 (Walsall - Leamore - Bloxwich - Mossley, and route 700 (Perton - Codsall High School). The original intention had been to develop services in either Leicester or Telford but the directors were persuaded that the core of the new bus service network would best be the most lucrative route lifted from a major plan to develop and expand Midland Red North operations into the Black Country, route 171. "Midland Choice Travel", as the company was originally known, recruited ex-London Forest manager Steve Deveraux and Trent Buses manager Keith Shayshutt. Over the next few years the business thrived; during the 1993 West Midlands Travel bus strike a fleet of 30 buses were hired from across the country to cover services.
Midland University is a private liberal arts college with an approximate enrollment of 1,300 students. The 33-acre (13ha) academic and residential campus is located in Fremont, Nebraska, 25 miles (40km) northwest of Omaha, Nebraska. The university offers over thirty undergraduate bachelor's degrees and three graduate master's degrees, including Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Education in Leadership, and Master in Professional Accounting.
Fielding athletic teams known as the Midland University Warriors, the college is a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The university’s official colors are navy blue, orange, and white. The university offers several extracurricular activities, including 27 varsity athletic teams, leadership and service groups, clubs, and organizations, as well as fraternities and sororities.
The International Harvester S-Series "Schoolmaster" is a Type C (conventional) bus chassis that was manufactured by International Harvester and then Navistar International from 1979 to 1989. In 1989, the S-Series was updated and renamed the International 3800. It was used primarily as a cowled chassis for both school bus and commercial bus applications; it also was the basis for the front and rear-engine stripped chassis that International uses for bus applications as well.
Introduced in 1979 to replace the Loadstar bus chassis, the S-Series was produced in two distinct generations. In 1989, all versions of the S-Series were updated; both versions were offered that year. The 3800 was produced until 2004, outliving other versions of the S-Series/4000-Series by three years. In production for 25 years, the S-Series bus chassis was the longest produced model ever made by International; it was also the last designed by International Harvester before the transition to Navistar.
