Spooky Afghanistan War activities
Olivier Roy participated in the Afghan War against the USSR. He learned to shoot and participated in the fighting in the 1980s[2]. He had already hitchhiked to Afghanistan in 1969. He practices an empirical ethnology by chatting with his interlocutors, especially the drivers who picked him up when hitchhiking. To cross the Afghan border to Pakistan, he disguised himself as an Afghan refugee while his partner wore a burqa.
After the end of the Afghan War, he moved to Central Asia to study Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
