Discussion at RSN regarding Nigerian news sources
[edit]See Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Nigerian_newspapers. A particular focus has been on undisclosed (or not clearly disclosed) paid content, and there has been discussion for the creation of a section on Nigerian sources at WP:RSP. Participation from Nigerian editors familiar with these sources would be appreciated. Hemiauchenia (talk) 21:30, 21 December 2024 (UTC)
Proposal discussion: Enhancing Source Reliability Awareness Among Nigerian Editors
[edit]Hello, fellow Nigerian Wikipedians!
We are proposing an initiative aimed at improving the ability of Nigerian Wikipedia editors to assess and use reliable sources when contributing to English Wikipedia. Recent discussions on the reliable sources noticeboard have raised concerns about the credibility of several Nigerian media outlets, leading to debates on their reliability status. Many Nigerian editors frequently cite publications from these sources that have been deemed problematic due to paid promotional content, lack of bylines, and inconsistencies in reporting.
To address this issue, we plan to launch a structured training and mentorship program to help Nigerian editors develop better source evaluation skills. The project will include interactive workshops, a mentorship network, and a dedicated source reliability handbook.
We invite all interested editors to share their feedback by replying to this thread. Your insights and suggestions will be invaluable in ensuring the success of this initiative.
Thank you, and we look forward to your contributions!
