Discussion report for this week
The science of editing
Between them, Wikipedia:Editing scientific articles and {{ESCA}} have managed to create a fair amount of drama across Wikipedia in the last couple of days. A lengthy thread at the incidents noticeboard discussed whether User:Count Iblis was intentionally spamming Template:ESCA onto the talk pages of a number of physics articles. The page itself quickly received the attention of a number of editors, and a consensus was reached that Wikipedia:Editing scientific articles was not a guideline and was in conflict with Wikipedia:No original research. A consensus to delete Template:Esca also seems emergent at templates for discussion.
New proposals
- User:Sebwite has added a proposal template to the essay Wikipedia:Public transport
- User:Harej is proposing Wikipedia:Deletion advocacy, which would see deletion debates reduced to two advocates arguing a case in front of a judge
- Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations is a proposed process for investigating contributors who may have repeatedly placed copyrighted materials on Wikipedia without verification of permission and to facilitate cleanup of any such infringement
- Is Wikipedia:Notability (academic journals) considered a guideline?
Deletion round-up
- Don't be misled by the name; Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chronology of Star Wars (2nd nomination) is actually the fourth nomination for the article, which nominator User:Dalejenkins believes is mainly synthesis, and partly a violation of copyright.
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Denialism (2nd nomination) is generating a good deal of debate. The article has been nominated as a neologism.
- This week's "Too Long Didn't Read" award goes outside deletion debates; User:Cybercobra picks this discussion over a single space in an article's title: Talk:To Aru Majutsu no Index#Requested move
Polls
- A proposal to get rid of proposed deletion is resembling a poll at the village pump.
Administrative notices
- Muntuwandi (talk · contribs) and Captain Occam (talk · contribs) have been placed on a 0RR restriction for 1 month.
Briefly
- Should we have spoiler warnings? Although spoiler warnings have been deprecated on Wikipedia, it has been suggested in a lengthy discussion at the village pump that they should be re-implemented.
