"Welcome to the Boomtown" is the Los Angeles themed debut hit single by David & David from the album Boomtown.[1][2] The single reached number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1986.
Composition
[edit]Thematically, the lyrics are centered around issues like Problem gambling, drug addiction, and the struggles of working class Americans.[3] The song tells the story of people living in Los Angeles, focusing primarily on the wealthy "Miss Christina", an upper-class woman who has a fancy car, a marble-floored mansion, and a serious cocaine addiction. Her supplier is Kevin, a college dropout who spends most of his waking hours hanging out at the local Denny's. The song ends with the revelation that Christina dies of an overdose before an ambulance can arrive on time to save her.
