Question from JohnGaming (05:47, 2 October 2024)

[edit]

Hi boss, what type of edits you suggest me to do first? Like some minor edits for example adding links, references, sentence correction or I can also work on adding more paragraphs into an existing article? --JohnGaming (talk) 05:47, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not your boss, I say lightheartedly. You definitely can make minor edits. As for content, I would suggest skimming our list of sources that people have most commonly discussed at the reliable sources noticeboard: not to memorize, just to get an idea of what to cite when adding content. Finally, as a new editor, if someone asks you to stop doing something, listen no matter how right you think you are. Usually, such a request comes with the relevant policy or guideline that you can read up on. You can ask questions at the Teahouse. Happy editing! Question from Degenhardt.jd (19:09, 6 October 2024)

[edit]

Hello! I've been working on creating new articles and most things are going well so far. The one spot I keep getting stuck with though is how to create drafts that I can save. I see there are a couple different ways to do this. The first seems to be the draft space. and the second is by making drafts in my userpage. I was able to find a page that has a linked template for creating new articles in draftspace, but can not figure out a way to easily make ones in my userpage. I also can figure out a way to find my drafts other than be going back through my edit log.

Is there some easy way to make new drafts and then find them on my userpage?

Thanks! --Degenhardt.jd (talk) 19:09, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If I understand your question correctly, one of the simpler ways is probably to go to Wikipedia:Sandbox organiser, click the button that says Click here to create your own Sandbox Organiser, then scroll down and click Publish page. You should now have your own sandbox organizer, a centralized place with instructions on how to create drafts and handy links to see a list of your own userpage drafts. There are some other ways, but this should be a good place to start while you grow more familiar with Wikipedia's interface. Happy editing! Question from Tdeoleo (15:51, 10 October 2024)

[edit]

How do I create my profile --Tdeoleo (talk) 15:51, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Depends on what you mean by "profile". If you mean your userpage, you can create it by clicking your username in red. If you mean an article about you, please see Wikipedia:FAQ/Article subjects § Can I start an article about myself or my company? and Wikipedia:Contact us/Article subjects. Hope that helped, Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 18:50, 10 October 2024 (UTC) and 18:57, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Questions from DEEKAY TO LOCALS on User:DEEKAY TO LOCALS (21:04, 10 October 2024)

[edit]

Hello how do i lock my page so that no one can edit it? --DEEKAY TO LOCALS (talk) 21:04, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You don't. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 21:14, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

HELLO, how do i change my user name? --DEEKAY TO LOCALS (talk) 21:05, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Since your account is so new, the easier method is just to abandon this account and create a new one with the username you want. Just to be on the safe side, you want to write a note on both userpages that you've abandoned your old account and are using the new one for username reasons. The other method is to request a username change for the existing account; if you have questions on the instructions, please feel free to ask at Wikipedia:Teahouse. Thanks again! Question from Katiemarie25 (16:03, 15 October 2024)

[edit]

Hello! Would you mind checking my user page and confirm that I have correctly disclosed my COI? --Katiemarie25 (talk) 16:03, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Katiemarie25, and welcome to Wikipedia! Yeah, the declaration on your userpage (permalink) looks fine to me. If you have other questions, please feel free to ask me or at the Teahouse. Happy editing! Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 17:42, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Maya g t (06:19, 18 October 2024)

[edit]

hi Liance, how do i make edits to the pages that I want to edit? --Maya g t (talk) 06:19, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @Maya g t! Seems like there's been a shuffling of the mentees, and I'm now your mentor instead of Liance. Have you tried going to the page you want to edit and clicking "Edit" tab near the upper right, as illustrated in the below screenshot?
If you prefer a readable guide, please feel free to use Help:Introduction to editing with VisualEditor. If you like following along with a video instead, you can try Molly White's "Become a Wikipedian in 30 minutes". The whole thing is worth a watch, but if you want, you can use the timestamps in the description to skip sections that don't apply. Question from Lindsay Kim (23:50, 3 November 2024)

[edit]

Hello, I'm Lindsay. I have questions regarding images and sources for my new article. For sources, I'm considering major news outlets like BBC and Reuters, as well as government reports and expert analyses in Korean. Since this topic is very recent and lacks existing academic journals, will these sources meet the notability requirements? --Lindsay Kim (talk) 23:50, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Lindsay Kim! To make sure you're complying with the requirements of your course, I think it's much more effective to ask your instructor Benjamin Mako Hill or the course's WikiEd contact Ian (Wiki Ed). Either one of them can claim you as a mentee using Special:ClaimMentee. Good luck, and happy editing! Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 00:50, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:24, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciate you copying the sources from frwiki! Not entirely sure if there's an official way to show smaller appreciation (this is too small for a barnstar from what I've seen), but I just wanted to let you know :) /home/gracen/ (yell at me here) 20:23, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Follow-up: if you're not feeling great, please don't stress yourself out over a draft that most definitely does not meet notability criteria as of right now. /home/gracen/ (yell at me here) 21:26, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(On Draft:Yuka Kitamura) Thank you. Fear not: I am taking breaks and not pushing myself. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 22:13, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from AyushAKC (07:01, 1 December 2024)

[edit]

I wanna edit the Max Verstappen page --AyushAKC (talk) 07:01, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, AyushAKC! You can't directly edit the Max Verstappen (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) article, which is protected against vandalism by only allowing edits from accounts old enough and with enough edits, but you can suggest edits through the Edit Request Wizard. Hope that helps, Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 07:06, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
