You said four years ago that you could source this. Do so, or argue at WP:AfD next week. Bearian (talk) 22:17, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
- Reply: Greetings, I do not remember such a statement. On 13 November 2020 I did state I hid the "Description" and "Geography" section that need sourcing. I could not, on an initial search, verify the content. If sourcing can be found the article could be reassessed as "Start-class".
- A failed proposal Wikipedia:Notability (Geographic locations) seems to be used as a rationale to create hundreds, if not multiple thousands, of place name locations as possibly a past populated place. I suppose misreading Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features) is possible, especially the part concerning being "supported by multiple reliable independent sources". To some Wikipedia is a gazetteer gives justification regardless of GNG or GEO.
- I seem to remember a multitude of California stub articles, created (I believe) possibly by an admin (maybe with a bot aid) and so many were unverified by any source as being a past populated place. Some even showing a spot in the middle of nowhere, with a single GNIS source (2009 I think). Some dictionary stub places might use the single "Ghost Towns of Northern California" source.
- A possible previous populated place like Tollen should not exist without sourcing. The camp that thinks notability does not mean what is sourced on an article but that a source exists somewhere in the universe, might have merit "until" notability is questioned. Look at Ramirez, California and Sonora Junction, California. A mentality that Towns, unlike people, don't need to establish notability, only official recognition has been evident.
- Some articles using, Ghost Towns of Northern California or California's Geographic Names: A Gazetteer of Historic and Modern Names of the State might be notable. Articles such as Secret Ravine, California (single source) or Deadwood, Placer County, California (single source) are possibly notable but GNIS has errors which need to be looked at.
- The bottomline is that unsourced articles are suspect and if sourcing is not found should be deleted. -- Otr500 (talk) 09:02, 12 December 2024 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2025
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2024).
- Following an RFC, Wikipedia:Notability (species) was adopted as a subject-specific notability guideline.
- A request for comment is open to discuss whether admins should be advised to warn users rather than issue no-warning blocks to those who have posted promotional content outside of article space.
- The Nuke feature also now provides links to the userpage of the user whose pages were deleted, and to the pages which were not selected for deletion, after page deletions are queued. This enables easier follow-up admin-actions.
- Following the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been elected to the Arbitration Committee: CaptainEek, Daniel, Elli, KrakatoaKatie, Liz, Primefac, ScottishFinnishRadish, Theleekycauldron, Worm That Turned.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in January 2025 to reduce the number of unreviewed articles and redirects in the new pages feed. Sign up here to participate!
