OKA
[edit]Hi Dr. Blofield; since you asked for a double check on accuracy of prize distribution, I wanted to remind you of my previous clarification on whether it was permitted for contestants to enter the OKA prize more than once. I thought your answer was effectively a yes (although admittedly, the answer was vague, but I didn't wan't to seem a nuisance by asking for further clarifcation) so I spent time and effort in making sure I had two entries for each country, in the belief that this an acceptable competition strategy. Esculenta (talk) 14:35, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- You asked if it was permitted to enter more than once. I said yes. That didn't mean "that will give you the full prize". The rule was simply completing all 50 once. If you'd asked "if I do two entries for each country am I entitled to £200 if no-one else does it? it would have been clear. In future contests though I will make it clear that if a contestant does a double full sweep they can claim the full amount over others who do it once because I do appreciate the effort. I only thought 1 or 2 people would even do it once, had no idea it would be done by so many otherwise I'd have added a double entry rule. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:05, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- Obviously by asking if it was permitted to enter more than once, I was questioning if such an entry would be eligible for prizes (why bother asking otherwise?) I don't understand why you think I was claiming entitlement for the entire prize (never said that), instead of an increased fractional proportion of the winner's share. The point is, that time I spent on double entries (because of my misinterpreting your vague answer) could have been spent elsewhere on other countries. Agree it's a good idea to make the rules more clear for future competitions. Esculenta (talk) 19:16, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- I thought it was a bit of an odd question, thinking it makes no difference if you add two entries but cool if you can do multiple for a few countries. Had no idea you meant a full double or were asking if that meant the ability to win the full £200 above all others or a higher share of the reward. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:20, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- Next time hopefully we can put in 500 into a full sweep, more than 200, and I will introduce a double full sweep rule which allows the full amount to be won. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:26, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- Then you may have issues with double "double full sweeps"! Take my opinion for what it's worth (not much), but the full sweep is a lot of work (spent an hour just finding a second Vatican topic), and each successful sweep should be rewarded with an entry into the prize pool that gets fractionally and proportionally distributed among all winners. Anyway, my whinging is done now; thanks for hosting the competition! Esculenta (talk) 19:34, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- And thank you for participating, an incredible effort! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:40, 2 May 2025 (UTC)

European results
[edit]Hi Dr. I don't wish to be a bother, but I think there might have been a miscalculation in the prize awarded to me. At my count, I won a share of the OKA prize, the Religion topics and a share of Northern Ireland so, wouldn't mine be £55? (£20 for OKA, £25 for religion, £10 for Northern Ireland). I just wanted to check if I was reading it right because at the moment it just says £30. The C of E God Save the King! (talk) 18:38, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- Ah, I missed the religion prize, I'll update it, thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:59, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
European Results: Part 2
[edit]Hi Dr.Blofeld! Please excuse the long and delayed post. I had done about 160 articles for the contest. I did not know that I had to update the list and count specifically on the Scoreboard page. I had updated all the articles in the main contest page but my name is not reflected in the main scoreboard. I have gone ahead and updated the entries and score on the scoreboard page now. As per the results, I should be eligible for the fourth prize for the most articles. Kindly consider this request and modify the results to reflect it, considering the effort that has gone in and to be fair to the competition. Thanks a lot! Magentic Manifestations (talk) 14:06, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Dr. Blofeld, Thanks for adding it. I have taken the liberty to update the total as per the same. Cheers! Magentic Manifestations (talk) 15:11, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- No worries, it would probably be unfair of me to reject anybody who didn't claim for their prizes by the midnight deadline on the 31st. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:10, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Dr. Blofeld, Sorry for bothering you again! Regarding the prize for the contest, can you throw some light on how it will be distributed and whether some information needs to be provided by me. (It is stated that "At the end of the contest you will email for your prizes and let us know what country you are in.") As this is my first time with the event, asking for further clarification on this. Thanks in advance! Magentic Manifestations (talk) 15:14, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Magentic Manifestations, Wikimedia UK are coordinating the distribution of the prizes. The competition pages says Amazon vouchers, so that's what we'll go with. For that I will need the email addresses of the winners. I'll confirm that with our head of finance tomorrow. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 15:51, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Richard Nevell (WMUK), Thanks for the clarification. One of the ways would be to say send out a google form to the prize winners using the "Email this user" function so that they can share the country and other details required if any. Do let me know, thanks! Magentic Manifestations (talk) 16:40, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

Happy birthday, you and Audrey Hepburn! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:54, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
- Danke Gerda! The years come around so quickly don't they! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:35, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yes. - Today's main page has again memories of three people who died, for two just the name and for the third an image (great!) coupled with a little bit from her life which seems too little for my taste. What do you think? - A friend of mine sang in Verdi's Requiem at Trinity Church, - you can watch the lifestream (Verdi about 30 minutes into it). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:49, 5 May 2025 (UTC)

Aberdaron has been nominated for a good article reassessment. If you are interested in the discussion, please participate by adding your comments to the reassessment page. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, the good article status may be removed from the article. Z1720 (talk) 22:27, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
- The problem is that you keep piling up the GARs Z1720. You can't just let me address one and then move on. You've got Aalborg, Aberdaron, The Ritz Paris and The Dorchester open. It would be different if you were doing something to help but slow down and do it bit by bit would be my advice. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:10, 8 May 2025 (UTC)

- I've declined this speedy tag as being completely inappropriate, although the article could do with beefing up a bit. Unfortunately all the sources that I gathered up to potentially destub this are in Catalan. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:49, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks Ritchie, it is a listed building. I'll add something soon. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:57, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
