With the recent move of East Timor to Timor-Leste, could someone please update this template accordingly? Supporting articles are in the process of being moved. Cheers, Turnagra (talk) 03:56, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We can't change {{Iso2country/data}} yet; we have to wait for the page moves to be complete, including category moves. If we change it before the page moves are done, we will cause red links in the templates. For example, if you go to Capital punishment in Cyprus and look at the navbox, the link to Capital punishment in East Timor works, but Capital punishment in Timor-Leste would be a red link. Once the page moves are done, come back here, or go directly to the talk page for {{Iso2country/data}}, and add an edit request. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:28, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also see this discussion for a list of pages that still need to be moved. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:25, 29 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And now this discussion about whether the page should have been moved. Page moves are on hold until that discussion is resolved. The ISO data template still can't be updated. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:32, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95 thanks for the replies - just letting you know that the move request has again been closed as moved, and after a week-long delay in case anyone opposed has been carried out. The other pages will still need to get moved, but just flagging that it's back underway now. Turnagra (talk) 22:37, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK. After the lists at this discussion, and any other necessary pages, have been processed, {{Iso2country/data}} can be updated, which will in turn update this template. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:16, 24 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Done now, after moving Capital punishment in Timor-Leste, which appeared to be the last move needed to eliminate uses of "East Timor" in this template. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:57, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Description of suggested change:

Please fix the broken link caused for Palestine pages. e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Languages_of_Asia_(category) links to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Languages_of_the_State_of_Palestine but the info there says the category has moved to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Languages_of_Palestine

Diff: It displays as Palestine already, but it causes a broken link for some topics, e.g. above. I don't know how to fix it sorry, but somebody more experienced probably knows how. I looked at the code and that also just says Palestine, but here is a token attempt at showing the change:

State of Palestine
+
Palestine

Both the Palestine page and the relevant categories were recently mass moved. Agree that the template should be updated to default to "X of Palestine". CMD (talk) 12:58, 2 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We can't do this yet. This is the same situation as Timor-Leste above. Please link to a discussion showing that any needed article page moves or redirects have been discussed and completed or created. I'm seeing articles like List of lighthouses in the State of Palestine that do not have corresponding redirects, e.g. List of lighthouses in Palestine. If we make this change to {{Iso2country/data}}, the link to that article will turn red in this template. I found the following red links, some of which will be affected.
This is not necessarily a complete list. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:21, 2 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that these page moves have been completed now, and {{Iso2country/data}} has been adjusted. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:00, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Add Regions (somehow)

[edit]

Hi,

as a bunch of articles for the individual regions (North Asia, East Asia, [[South Asia], West Asia, Central Asia, Southeast Asia) exist (e.g. History of East Asia, History of Central Asia, Template:History_of_South_Asia, ...) would it somehow be possible to add a section "regions" to this template?

That way not just this but also all deriving templates would also benefit from this. Agowa (talk) 19:20, 29 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

For most cases that would lead to a number of pointless red links. If expansion would help one particular topic, it is better to create a custom template. CMD (talk) 01:44, 30 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe a related template that is subregions only? awkwafaba (📥) 02:46, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Bougainville?

[edit]

Is it time to add Bougaineville to this template yet? Perhaps in the Limited recognition section? awkwafaba (📥) 03:00, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Bougainville remains part of Papua New Guinea. The Bougainville government expects independence in late 2027. CMD (talk) 03:56, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

We have to change Bangali to Bengali Hindu wedding, Hindu marriage in Bengali culture, Bengali Muslim wedding, Muslim marriage in Bengali culture

@Jeong seolah:  Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Est. 2021 (talk · contribs) 08:47, 23 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
