Expanded Article
[edit]I have expanded this article to include both the 1919-20 and 1937-39 Waziristan campaigns. This might make it a little confusing, however, due to the link with the North-West Frontier (military history) article, I think it is necessary otherwise there would be no full overview of British and Indian military operations in Waziristan in the early 20th Century. That is my opinion and anyone is welcome to hold a contrary one.
If you have any ideas about how to improve this article, go for it as it needs a bit of work. Some ideas for improvement that I have, include:
- pictures (are there any pictures that can be used, that won't breach copyright policy?) Done
- some information boxes, if possible showing commanders, force composition, casualties, etc. if this information is available Done
- expanded references (I only have a couple of books, hence my over-reliance upon one or two sources - if you have others, please put them in and expand the breadth of the research base)
- timeline of events (is it possible to include a timeline for each campaign, as it would perhaps break down the events into a more digestable format?)
I'm not sure if it is still classified as a stub now - is it possible that it can be reclassified now? Sorry, I'm still new to this and don't quite know how the process works.AustralianRupert (talk) 23:51, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
- It is most certainly not a stub anymore: If you need a reassessment in the future, for milhist you can leave them at WP:MHA#REQ. Your work looks excellent to me, it does need some sort of graphic, probably an infobox of some kind and I am sure there are some areas for expansion: timelines sound good. Keep up the good work! - Cheers. Thanks for your help. I will try to work on it.AustralianRupert (talk) 10:34, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Cannot understand why both campaigns - 1919-20 and 1936-39 - are in the same article. They were more than 15 years apart. The causes were different. Very few individuals took part in both.
By contrast the road-building operations of 1921-24, which followed the 1919-20 operations and might fit in this article, are entirely absent. THAT is confusing.
The two sections are better split into separate articles.

- I have split the two campaigns per your suggestion. I'd lumped them together originally as this was one of my first wiki efforts and didn't know how to create new pages at the time. The other campaign is at Waziristan campaign 1919-20. Please feel free to try to improve either if you have any ideas. Cheers. — AustralianRupert (talk) 07:22, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
- Good on you!--FwdObserver (talk) 09:53, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
Strength of Indian Forces
[edit]60 000 seems exagerated.
Wilkinson-Latham gives the strength of Indian troops as "over 30,000"; (p. 28). This equates with the two divisions (1st Indian and Waziristan) employed in the later part of the campaign.
