suggestions on History Section

[edit]

I would suggest adding more information about the role Fort Edward had during the French and Indian War as a troop center for the British and as a staging area for Roger's Rangers on Roger's Island. Wikipedia already has a good link to the Roger's Rangers and to the modern visitor's center that handles archaeological collections from the town. Two books that treat the millitary aspect of Fort Edward's history would be "The Great Warpath: British Military Sites from Albany to Crown Point" (1999) and more recently "Rangers and Redcoats on the Hudson: Exploring the Past on Rogers Island, the Birthplace of the U. S. Army Rangers" (2004) both are written by David R. Starbuck. Including other authors would helpful in fleshing out the general history of the Fort Edward region, especially after the Revolutionary War period. I trust Starbuck's writings since I know he has excavated around the area for several years.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.122.202.244 (talk)

County seat

[edit]

This is a mistake to call the town the county seat: One county seats in NY are communites, not towns, and the county government is based on a board of supervisors (from each town), thus making it absurd to make one town the county seat. Stepp-Wulf (talk) 01:43, 13 July 2009 (UTC).[reply]

I think the three references supporting the town as the county seat would suggest otherwise. Perhaps you have a source supporting the village as the county seat? --JBC3 (talk) 16:46, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't matter if the county administration is located outside the village boundary, as indicated by notes 2 to 4, a NY town is not a community, it is a territorial local government unit, not a limited geopgraphical entity.
Furthermore, nowhere in the sources does in outright say, that the town of Fort Edwards is the county seat; that is a conclusion made by the contributor through original research, which is against the ground rules of Wikipedia. 84.23.155.84 (talk) 08:28, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
