Borderline, but should be notable now
[edit]Since the TV show is a go and now passes notability guidelines, I figure that the story could merit its own article now. If not, it can always be redirected to the author's page with history until more September, I suppose. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:57, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
Wiki
[edit]I'm adding this wiki to the external links section. It has a fairly good overview of the creepypasta and its spinoffs. It's been a while since I visited the site, but I remember it to be a fairly well maintained wiki that didn't undergo a large amount of vandalism and had a fairly set amount of members. If this is incorrect, feel free to remove this. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:21, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
- I'd originally added this to the wrong page, so I've moved the link and convo to the correct page. In any case, it looks like the wiki does have admins and a reasonably strict set of rules. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:25, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
- I've readded this - I've found at least two sources that mention the wiki, so I figure that it'd be worth adding to the external links section. I did stress that it was an unofficial wiki, though. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:41, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure if this should be on the page. My reasoning is that none of the info on the wiki is true, it's all fan-fiction that's loosely based on the original story. Since there isn't a disclaimer about this on the wiki, It's entirely possible that someone might be unaware of this. 71.193.183.190 (talk) 12:40, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- It doesn't have to be true. The reason I re-added it is because it's mentioned in multiple sources as an example of the creepypasta's popularity, longevity, and fandom. I'd specifically mentioned in the external links that it was unofficial and a fan wiki - two things that mark it as something that wasn't created by Straub himself. The wiki might not have that on the page, but I do think that the average person should be able to tell that it isn't an official work of Straub's by the words "unofficial" and "fan". Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 03:08, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
- Basically, the main reason I am lobbying for it to be added is that it has been mentioned in multiple RS and as such, would add to the overall article. It's not a perfect wiki, but it does have admin oversight from what I can see and the way I've labeled it in the external links section would make it apparent to most visitors that it is unofficial and not "true", meaning that it wasn't created or approved by Straub and isn't part of his canon, which is limited to the original short story. What we have to look at is whether or not a reasonable visitor would be able to understand that it isn't canon, which I think is plausible since it's marked as unofficial and not canon by the phrase "unofficial fan wiki". Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:50, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
- I'm not against it being on here because it's unofficial. I'm against it because everything on the wiki is fan-fiction presented as fact, and there's a risk that someone might visit the wiki and think it's true. It's also against Wikipedia's external link guidelines: "Any site that misleads the reader by use of factually inaccurate material or unverifiable research, except to a limited extent in articles about the viewpoints that the site is presenting". If you want to add a fan page to demonstrate the story's popularity, I'd recommend the Know Your Meme page. Rickraptor707 (talk) 01:14, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
Vandalism
[edit]A bunch of logo kids are vandalizing the page. How are we gonna resolve this? Arfan Eka Diandra (talk) 05:08, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
- Perhaps it might be a good idea to get the page temporarily protected. LVDP01 (talk) 08:28, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
"The Pirates" TV series as possible inspiration
[edit]An obscure Canadian children's TV series, The Pirates, is a possible inspiration for Candle Cove. Few episodes are still available, but they are very similar to the described series. There is a writeup for The Pirates at IMDB, and several pirated episodes can still be found on YouTube. Entageweorc (talk) 22:56, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
