Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam (shortened as NEEK, transl. Girl, why is the moon angry with me?) is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language coming-of-age romantic comedy film co-written, directed, and produced by Dhanush, jointly with Kasthuri Raja and Vijayalakshmi Kasthuri, under Wunderbar Films and RK Productions (P) Ltd. It stars an ensemble cast of Pavish, Anikha Surendran, Priya Prakash Varrier, Mathew Thomas, Venkatesh Menon, Rabiya Khatoon, and Ramya Ranganathan.

Initially, Soundarya Rajinikanth was to direct the film, announced in 2016, with Dhanush in the lead role, but it failed to materialise. Later, Dhanush borrowed the script and planned to direct it himself. It was revived and announced in December 2023, under the tentative title DD3, as it is Dhanush's third directorial film, and the official title was announced a few days later. Principal photography commenced the same month. The film has music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, cinematography handled by Leon Britto, and editing by Prasanna GK.

Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam is scheduled to release theatrically on 21 December 2024.

Development

On 27 September 2016, Soundarya Rajinikanth announced her next directorial venture titled Nilavuku Enmel Ennadi Kobam, produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu under V Creations and starring her then brother-in-law Dhanush in the lead role.[2] Actresses Kajal Aggarwal, Manjima Mohan and Sonam Kapoor were approached to pair alongside Dhanush in the film. Soon after, however, the project failed to materialise. Soundarya, Thanu and Dhanush began instead working together on a sequel for the 2014 film Velaiilla Pattadhari, which became Velaiilla Pattadhari 2.[3]

On 24 December 2023, Christmas Eve, Dhanush's production house Wunderbar Films and his father Kasthuri Raja and mother Vijayalakshmi Kasthuri's production house RK Production officially announced that they would produce Dhanush's third directorial film after Pa Paandi (2017) and Raayan. It was revealed that the project was the dropped venture that was to be done by Soundarya, Dhanush and Thanu. Along with the title of the film, principal cast and crew were announced, where the cast consists of Pavish, Anikha Surendran in her second collaboration with Dhanush after Raayan, Priya Prakash Varrier, making her debut in Tamil cinema and Mathew Thomas in his second Tamil film after Leo (2023), Venkatesh Menon, Rabiya Khatoon and Ramya Ranganathan, and the crew consists of cinematographer Leon Britto, editor Prasanna GK, music composer G. V. Prakash Kumar, production designer Jackie, visual director and costume designer Kavya Sriram and publicity designer Kabilan.[4][5] The film's title was derived from a song from Policekaran Magal (1962).[6]
