Karen Rosted Holmgaard (born 28 January 1999) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for FA Women's Super League club Everton and the Denmark national team.[1]
Club career
[edit]Fortuna Hjørring
[edit]Karen Holmgaard previously played for Vejle BK from 2016 to 2017 before joining Fortuna Hjørring with Sara on 28 June 2017.[2] She made her league debut against Varde on 14 August 2017.[3] Holmgaard scored her first league goal against VSK Aarhus on 1 October 2017, scoring in the 90th minute.[4] On 22 May 2018, Holmgaard and Sara's contract was extended.[5]
Turbine Potsdam
[edit]On 4 December 2020, she joined Turbine Potsdam, together with Sara Holmgaard.[6][7][8] She made her league debut against Wolfsburg on 5 February 2021.[9] Holmgaard scored her first league goal against Eintracht Frankfurt on 16 May 2021, scoring in the 58th minute.[10]
Everton
[edit]Holmgaard made her league debut against Leicester City on 29 September 2022.[11] She scored her first league goal against West Ham on 22 January 2023, scoring in the 3rd minute.[12] On 1 August 2024, Holmgaard signed a new contract with Everton.[13]
International career
[edit]She made her debut on the senior Danish national team on 28 February 2018 against Iceland.[14] She scored her first goal against Azerbaijan on 12 April 2022, scoring in the 76th minute.[15]
Holmgaard was named Female Talent of the Year in 2018 by the Danish Football Union.[16]
Holmgaard was selected for the final squad at the UEFA Women's Euro 2022.[17]
Personal life
[edit]She is the twin sister of Everton teammate Sara Holmgaard.[18]
