The 2021–22 season was the 90th season in the existence of FC Metz and the club's third consecutive season in the top flight of French football. In addition to the domestic league, Metz participated in this season's edition of the Coupe de France.

Notes:
  1. ^ Bordeaux were initially relegated to Ligue 2. However, on 14 June it was decided by the DNCG to relegate Bordeaux administratively to the Championnat National for financial issues.[1] On 27 July 2022, Bordeaux won its appeal and was officially maintained in Ligue 2 for the 2022–23 season.[2][3]
