This will probably always be my first and last post on my own journal so this is me. I've been on-line since the early 80s but I'd been out of fandom for years until Star Trek XI ate my brain and dragged me into Live Journal and then eventually Dreamwidth. I adore icons and collect them, always borrowed with permission and credit.

From Trek AOS I fell into SGA & SG1 fandom through a fanfic rec for something by Astolat, and then a crossover SGA/SG1 fanfic took me to Jack/Daniel. Hawaii Five-O came along and took care of any remaining brain crumbs but I broke up with Hawaii Five-O at the end of the first season and branched out.

I love fanfic. I tend to be really analytical about everything and I have an internal editor that won't shut up. The fannish starting point for me is always the characters in the source material. My favorite fanfics are an exploration and extension of the characters which is also why I love really good AUs.

Mementis and her seriously wonderful 365 days of daily fic recs in 2012 changed my life. Daily recs for amazing fic (and the source material) for Hockey RPF, Generation Kill, Suits, Inception, Supernatural, Jared/Jensen, Sherlock BBC, and The Losers. Wherever you are, thank you! I discovered the actual game of hockey and a genuine love for hockey as a game beyond the players as a direct result of reading Hockey RPF recommended by her. Currently happy when a bunch of teams win, pleased when other teams lose.

AO3 is the best thing since the discovery of chocolate. I have 5000+ bookmarks, yeah, I don’t know either. Somewhere along the way I started looking at other fandoms my favorite authors were writing in. That's where I discovered Harry Potter post-canon fanfic. And then my flist discovered Teen Wolf and Stiles/Derek.

TV shows in no particular order: SGA, SG1, TOS, TNG, DS9, Eureka, Big Bang Theory, Numbers, Bones, Castle, Glee, Leverage, Sleepy Hollow, BBS Sherlock, Elementary, Teen Wolf (the first season), Buffy (until sixth season), Angel-The-Show (until the fourth season when the entire production team lost their minds with a side order of batshit crazy), H50 (first season only), NCIS, NCIS:LA, NCIS:NO, CSI (until Grissom left), M*A*S*H, CSI:NY, The West Wing, Murphy Brown, X-Files (but really just Mulder & Scully because all the different alien plots trying to take over Earth at the same time, did the aliens hold meetings to synchronize their invasion schedules?), Remington Steele, MacGyver, Farscape, Warriors and Wizards, Highlander (the TV series and the first movie only), Beauty and the Beast (original), St Elsewhere, ER, Hill Street Blues, Magnum PI, Blue Bloods (Tom Selick ages so nicely), Law & Order (until Jerry Orbach and Jesse Martin were gone), As Time Goes By, Dancing With the Stars, Ace of Cakes, Good Eats, Barefoot Contessa, Iron Chef America, Diners Drive-ins & Dives, and BBC World News.

I generally didn't see slash pairings at all until TREK AOS when amazing fanfic writers turned me into a major Kirk/McCoy shipper. I still tend to be something of a hard sell on slash pairings because for me the attraction with TV/movies/books always begins with an interest in the canon characters and relationships.

With Glee my first episode was 3x5 and Kurt/Blaine instantly became my new OTP. Originally I thought Ryan Murphy was writing a cartoon on crack but now I kinda think he just really tends to think characters are furniture for whatever plot he wants to write next.

The combination of Glee and Teen Wolf and hockey dragged me kicking and screaming into Tumblr even though it sucks beyond belief at fostering actual conversations, discussions, and the ability to find all the pieces of any Tumblr only fics.

But still ...

Then and now, forever and always, TREK 2009 AOS canon, and TOS canon, I ship Spock & Uhura and they will always have a special place for me. They were my first ship back in the sixties, decades before fandom invented a new meaning for thR word.

I adore AUs in any fandom and the very best distill the essence of the characters and put them somewhere else. I think SGA has so many truly amazing AUs at least in part because John and Rodney are such distinct personalities and have so many turning points in canon. I've loved magnificent AU epics, shorter things, and crackfics where they're bugs, or Penguins, or even Girl Scout cookies. What they all have in common is a strong sense of who the characters are and what changes an AU would bring without changing their essential characters. I'm cursed with a really good ear for dialogue and consistent author voice in narrative, and a very good feel for in-character actions and motives but I can't plot worth shit so I don’t write anywhere but in my head. All conversations and turning points and emotional confrontations with no actual plots holding things together.

My introduction to SGA was through Astolat's A Beautiful Lifetime Event and I'd read millions of words of fanfic before I saw any of the episodes. If I'd seen the show first, I absolutely would have shipped John/Teyla, and wouldn't have seen John/Rodney Until The Shrine.

My year of obsession with STXI really took me totally by surprise. I'd been a Trek fan since the first episode back in 1966 and about all I was hoping for was a decent movie that didn't make me cringe. Holy shit. Um, yeah. I ended up seeing it 18 times. I owe JJA big time for bringing me back to fandom even though I didn't like the second movie.

The books I read are pretty much only those by favorite authors. These days I read at home on a big ass monitor (bad eyes) or out of the house on kindles.

Friends of the Library, the SCA, travel, and memberships to a bunch of big city museums all over the country, that's me. I've revised this post at least half a dozen times over the years, first on Live Journal and now on Dreamwidth. I have an account here so people know it's me when I comment. Still my first and last post. Probably always will be.
