Mala means “spicy with a tingle” in Chinese, and the new Mala Restaurant delivers hot and spicy Szechuan food. Start with snacks or starters that alternate between crispy, chewy, spicy, mild and sticky. Then, the spice level slowly builds throughout the main courses. Soup is often served throughout the meal to offset or add to “the crescendo of seasonings.” Dishes here are served family style as they become ready.

The Sushi Yamaguchi space went from dark cave to a modern space under the new Sushi Hiroyoshi Japanese Cuisine that some have compared to Kabuto. Start with one of three featured appetizers such as a tofu-uni dish, a seared tuna or a cucumber-jellyfish salad. Then try dishes such as a Scottish salmon tartare, toro taku with fatty tuna and pickled daikon, una kyu with golden eel and cucumber or nigiri.
