The nine remaining teams partake in a New Zealand challenge involving either an intimidating jump or an intimidating Maori dance. One racer takes bad advice from someone to relate to another, while someone's emotions lead to major problems for their partner during the challenge. Two contestants' infatuation with one another ends up distracting them from their cause, leading someone to intervene and make them concentrate on the contest. This causes heartbreak, but fortunately for an experienced team it turned out to be a non-elimination round.

Plot

Noah emma kiss

Emma and Noah nearly have their first kiss.

The teams must now visit the lush mountains of New Zealand, and take a train to the next junction to find their next tip. Despite being among the first four teams, Father and Son are unable to catch the first train due to Dwayne tiring down. While on the way to the train station, Emma and Noah have a romantic moment and try to kiss, but are interrupted by the Surfer Dudes. Emma's growing relationship with Noah causes her to lose focus from the game once again. After arriving at the junction, the teams must then take part in an Either/Or, which involves either bungee jumping off a cliff and catching a fish, or performing a traditional Maori dance.

Devin reaches the second stage of heartbreak: anger.

While on the way to the junction, Junior converses with the Surfers, making his father feel lonely. This leads Dwayne to take advice from Brody on how to be a better parent. Emma gets carried away with her thoughts on Noah, forcing Kitty to take control of the team and try to divert her focus back onto the game. Meanwhile, Carrie deals with Devin going through his second stage of breakup, anger, after being dumped by Shelley. She tries to calm him down, only to have their romantic moment interrupted by the train which suddenly picks up speed. After reaching the challenge area, the Ice Dancers are able to perform the traditional Maori dance within a matter of minutes due to their familiarity with dancing, and are the first to arrive at the Chill Zone. They arrive so early that Don is still getting himself ready for the camera, and also make him think that they've skipped the challenge. Meanwhile, Stephanie manages to trick Ryan into bungee jumping off the cliff, only for him to use reverse psychology and trick her himself.

Noahemmabreakup

Emma puts her relationship with Noah on hold to focus on the game.

The second train arrives at the junction where the Sisters and Reality TV Pros argue over which challenge to pick, with Kitty quickly agreeing to bungee jump after seeing the third train arrive. As more teams complete the challenge, Devin's anger helps him perform the Maori dance, giving the Best Friend second place while the Cadets get third, which angers the latter after learning that the Ice Dancers came in before them. Dwayne tries to follow Brody's advice and act cool, but this irritates Junior after he starts break dancing instead of performing the challenge correctly. He yells at his father about this who channels his anger into performing the traditional dance correctly, which is approved by the locals.

Mother and son

Junior tells Dwayne that he got a women's tattoo.

Kitty gives Emma a pep talk about her obsession with Noah, making her realize her mistake and promises to keep her focus on the game from now on. The Reality TV Pros are the last to arrive and to make matters worse, Emma puts her relationship with Noah on hold for the game, believing it would be best for both of them. Though this puts Noah into a heartbroken-catatonic state, with Owen having to cheer him up, Don then reveals that it is a non-elimination round. In an attempt by Dwayne to impress his son, he gets a tattoo, only for Junior to reveal that it is a women's tattoo, much to his shock and embarrassment.

Trivia

General

  • The teams that choose to do the Māori haka are Father & Son, the Ice Dancers and the Best Friends. The other teams choose bungee jumping.
  • On the cover of one of the magazines Junior is reading, there is a picture of Willy from Aftermath: Bridgette Over Troubled Water and a man from the commercial shown in Not Quite Famous.
  • This is the only episode to feature an Either/Or challenge in which no teams switch challenges.

Continuity

References

  • The title is a pun on the phrase "more or less".
  • Noah mentions "the movie of a couple on a sinking ship," to Emma, a reference to Titanic.
  • During the challenge, Dwayne performs the moonwalk, the signature dance move of the late Michael Jackson.
  • The black outfits the haka performers wear is reminiscent of the outfits worn by the national rugby team of New Zealand, who traditionally performs a haka before every game.
  • The reality shows that Noah mentions in this episode are parodies of actual shows:
Josee hand good

Josee's hand goof.

Goofs

  • When Jacques is talking about how he didn't get a foot rub in the confessional but Josee did, Josee's left hand disappears for a brief second.
  • The chairs the Ice Dancers are on disappears in further scenes.
  • Don pronounces "Maori" incorrectly.
  • The Haka that the Maori dancers do isn't an actual Haka. A traditonal Haka will require you to speak Maori throughout it.
  • Dwayne's cleft chin disappears when he has a tattoo.
