Tonight, We Make Our Move is the fourth episode of Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains.
Story[]
Night 8[]
The Villains return to camp after voting Randy Bailey out, and Coach Wade and Tyson Apostol have a heart to heart. Offended by Sandra Diaz-Twine's comments at Tribal Council, a sad and wounded Coach wonders why nobody ever has something good to say about him. Tyson offers to help support Coach through it and give him some advice. Tyson tells Coach not to wear feathers in his hair at Tribal Council, to not tell stories, and to do his tai-chi in private, but Coach doesn't want to give any of those things up.
Coach |
“ | Sandra tried to call me out at Tribal tonight and it was just very disheartening. I'm human, I'm sensitive, I'm probably more sensitive than most people, I just hide it behind a lot of things I have done and accomplished, and behind a lot of machismo. | ” |
Tyson |
“ | Coach pulled me aside and told me he wanted to go home, but the Villains do need Coach in the game. He's much much stronger in the game physically this time around and that's what we need right now. | ” |
Day 9[]
The next morning, Coach is still deeply upset at what happened during Tribal Council and decides to walk off into the jungle to contemplate. The other Villains at camp ask Tyson what happened during their nighttime conversation, and Tyson reveals to them that Coach broke down, cried, and considered quitting. Rob Mariano cannot believe that Coach would think about quitting.
Tyson |
“ | When we got back from Tribal Council, Coach broke down in tears and said he didn't think the game deserved his nobility and he wanted to quit the game so I told him to stick in there, like he knew what he was getting into, it's not like any of us are Survivor virgins. | ” |
Rob |
“ | This morning there's been a little bit of an attitude shift, Coach had a little sob session with Tyson and wanted to quit the game or something, I don't know. That's not much of a coach if you ask me. | ” |
Taking matters into his own hands, Rob goes out and talks to Coach to try and get his head back in the game. Rob tells Coach that he's not on the bottom of the tribe and that he does want to play the game with him. Coach wonders then why the only time Rob wants to bond is when they are getting ready for challenges, but Rob says that everything is by design and that Coach needs to trust him. After the conversation with Rob and some meditation, Coach seems to calm down and realizes that he cannot give up on the game.
Coach |
“ | I'm different than most people. One of a kind. Last of the Mohicans. King Arthur. Legend. Nobody out here has got what I have. Confucius says that the greatest glory a man can have is not in never falling, but rising every time he falls, and I fell hard last night. You gotta be weak to be strong, there's power in weakness. Today's challenge you'll see an even fiercer warrior from me. | ” |
A Sears catalogue arrives in Tree Mail that lets both of the tribes choose their own rewards that they will be playing for in the next Reward Challenge. The Heroes are optimistic they will be able to pull off another victory and finally build some momentum.
Amanda |
“ | We had it proved at the last challenge that we're serious about this now and we're more united and I think it's changed us as a tribe, so if the Villains walk away with the Sears stuff, I will be mad because I don't want to lose momentum. | ” |
The challenge involves individual tribe members sliding down a surface grabbing numbered balls and trying to make a basket before the other tribe member makes one. The Heroes make a valiant effort at the challenge by forcing the challenge to go to the final match after trailing, but the Villains narrowly pull off yet another victory and take home their Sears reward choices; a toolkit, a large tarp, and twine.
The Villains return to camp, and Coach is a changed man from the previous night.
Coach |
“ | Challenge was great and the Dragon Slayer is feeling top notch. I'm ready to rock and roll and ready to move forward. Will I change? No. Will I be the Dragon Slayer and slay everybody? Yes. Will I wear my heart on my sleeve everyday? Absolutely, unequivocally, yes. | ” |
The tribe opens their reward items, and Russell Hantz sees something on one of the knives and dislodges it, mistakenly believing it was something that held the blade in place. The object is actually a clue to the Hidden Immunity Idol. The clue falls out and is revealed to the whole tribe, so Rob reads it aloud to everyone.
Rob |
“ | So I grab the note and little did I know it was a clue to the Hidden Immunity Idol. Who knew? There were never any Hidden Immunity Idols when I played the game. | ” |
Sandra says that anyone who looks for the idol will be marked and voted out at the next Tribal Council. She says that the smartest thing for the tribe to do is find it as a group and throw it into the ocean. Despite the seemingly unanimous consensus about the idol and punishing anyone who looks for the idol, Russell knows that he has to find it alone and use it to assume power over his tribe. While the Villains start setting up their new large tarp, Russell goes off on a walk so he can go scope out the location of the idol.
Russell |
“ | There's no way that I can get a clue to the Hidden Immunity Idol and not find it. That's not going to happen. So I'm thinking that's the palm [tree] over the water and they have two trees next to it, so imma find it. | ” |
Rob suspects Russell is up to no good and asks Sandra to go look and see if Russell is really just going for a walk or if he's looking for the idol. After doing some reconnaissance, Sandra manages to see Russell lurking around the trees near the beach, and she reports back to the tribe. Everybody agrees that Russell should be sent home for looking for the idol, just like they agreed to moments before.
Rob |
“ | Russell's a bonehead. He's like the Hobbit on crack. And I don't trust Russell's ass at all, and the safest thing to do is just get rid of him right away. | ” |
Day 10[]
Much like their rivals the day before, all of the Heroes are in one spot when a clue to a Hidden Immunity Idol is found. This clue was found in their coffee that the Heroes had won at the previous Reward/Immunity Challenge.
Tom |
“ | This morning everything changed, as we poured out the coffee we found the clue to a Hidden Immunity Idol found somewhere on our beach. Colby and I, we're on the outs with this tribe with no way to get in so we need this to stay alive in this game. | ” |
Shortly after the clue is read, the Heroes scatter and search all over their beach for the Hidden Immunity Idol. Tom Westman finds the general location where the idol is, but Amanda Kimmel quickly sees and starts digging at the same location, being joined soon after by James Clement, and later Candice Woodcock. Tom moves over to a different spot in the sand and finds the idol, and he tries to sneakily put it away without the others noticing, but Amanda sees Tom put the idol into his sock.
Amanda |
“ | Tom, he was acting a little funny and when I came up on him I saw him put something in his sock and then he moved behind a tree so I knew he had it. | ” |
Amanda spreads the news of Tom's idol discovery with the rest of the tribe, causing them all to become disappointed. Tom meets up with Colby Donaldson and reveals the idol to him, Colby is optimistic the idol will be able to help the duo in the game.
Colby |
“ | The Hidden Immunity Idol changed the whole playing field, and that's all we needed. That's all we needed. Tom and I needed an opening to get back into this game. Granted, neither Tom nor myself are comfortable, but we're in a little better position than we were a couple days ago. | ” |
Day 11[]
The Heroes and Villains arrive to compete at the next Immunity Challenge. The challenge is close, with Tom and Rob leading their respective teams by being in the caller position, giving direction to the blindfolded members operating a ball on a table maze. Although the challenge is very close, Rob leads the Villains to yet another victory, sending the Heroes back to Tribal Council for the fourth time.
Cirie |
“ | We're going back to Tribal Council, and getting rid of Colby or Tom tonight would be the smart thing to do. They have been on the outs with our tribe since maybe, Day 3? And for my game I need some of these strong people gone. | ” |
Arriving back at camp, Tom expresses his disappointment at not being able to lead the Heroes tribe to victory, and is also worried about his and Colby's positions in the tribe, even with the Hidden Immunity Idol.
Tom |
“ | Challenge was a heartbreaker, Colby and I are the low man on the totem pole in the tribe and the last thing I need is to go marching off to Tribal Council tonight. I have the Hidden Immunity Idol, but everyone knows I have it so I'm still a target. So my game right now is biding my time and looking for little cracks in their alliance to use so we can save our necks. | ” |
Candice and Cirie Fields meet with each other in the jungle and talk strategy. They agree that they need to break up the pair of Colby and Tom, so they come up with a plan to split the votes 3-3 on both Tom and Colby to ensure that the Hidden Immunity Idol cannot be used against the majority alliance.
Candice |
“ | We're going to Tribal Council tonight and we kind of have a plan of what we're going to do. Tom has the idol and we need to be extra careful right now, but as long as we're all on the same page theoretically it should work out. | ” |
Amanda talks with J.T. Thomas on the beach about what to do, and J.T. favors getting rid of Candice. However, Amanda is wary of leaving a big strategic player, Tom, with so much power because of the idol. J.T. says to Amanda that at this point he trusts Tom more than he trusts Candice in the game.
J.T. |
“ | I would love to have Tom and his idol in an alliance with me, no doubt. Tom and Colby are both shoot you straight kind of guys, they look you in the eyes, shake your hand, tell you how they feel, and you can take it to the bank. I would rather have someone like that I can count on than Candice, the scrambling and running around she done in the past couple days. I don't trust her as far as I can throw her. | ” |
Later, Amanda and J.T. get up and have a meeting with Tom near the jungle on the beach. Tom has a talk with J.T. and Amanda, trying to convince them to keep Colby and himself in the game over Cirie and Candice. Tom tries to play down the fact he has the idol and tries to convince them that he feels the idol is more of a liability than an asset, and Tom even offers to give it up to them. Amanda is still leery of Tom, though she admits there is a part of Tom she thinks she could trust. James walks up and joins the discussion, and he agrees that Candice should be sent home. The whole group walks out in agreement on a Candice vote and a new alliance.
Amanda and Cirie meet together in the jungle and Amanda relays the conversation she had with Tom to Cirie, suggesting Candice be taken out. However, Cirie reacts strongly and says it would be a dumb move to make.
Cirie |
“ | Amanda, I love her to death, but she's not the sharpest tool in the shed. My alliance they're so wishy washy, they panic and do crazy stuff. Come on, Tom is very charismatic, very athletic, he's already won this game once before. Why keep someone like that in the game? | ” |
Eventually Rupert Boneham and James also walk up to the conversation, and Cirie convinces all of them that getting rid of Candice would be silly and to go ahead with the plan to get rid of either Colby or Tom. However, J.T. manages to watch the conversation from a distance on a hill and watches as Cirie successfully changes everyone's mind on the vote. J.T. meets with Tom later and tells him that he has lost control over the tribe to Cirie, who is now masterminding everything. J.T. tells Tom to get his idol and to use it to save himself.
Tom |
“ | You know I thought we had it solid this afternoon, but after Amanda talked to Cirie she broke faith and the deal's off. Cirie's the puppetmaster and she's got her hand up there, so it could be the end of us. | ” |
J.T. says that Cirie should be the one going home, and Tom tells J.T. that the split vote is the perfect chance they have to get her out. Since the majority alliance is splitting 3-3 on Tom and Colby, all that needs to happen is for J.T. to switch his vote and have Tom play the idol, and then Cirie goes home. J.T. realizes that his vote alone will decide who goes home.
J.T. |
“ | I've got to make a decision. A very big decision, I've seen Cirie operate, I know how she plays and it won't be long until she gets rid of someone like me. My gut's telling me go with the flow, write Colby's name down and don't piss everyone off. My heart's telling me keep the good guys in the game, get rid of Cirie. But if you listen to your heart, you get hurt out here so it's all up to me. I know how everyone here's voting except for me. | ” |
The Heroes arrive at Tribal Council and talk about the alliances that have been formed. A major issue that the tribe talks about is how they can move forward and win at challenges and bond as a team, Rupert admits he wants to keep the tribe strong, but that he also needs to live up to his word which means that might not be how he votes. James declares that he will do anything to win, and that he will be basing his vote off of keeping the tribe strong. The tribe goes to vote, and before the votes are read, Tom plays his Hidden Immunity Idol. The votes against Tom are negated, and J.T. ultimately decides to flip over to keep Tom and Colby in the game, therefore Cirie is blindsided 3-2-0. As the final vote is read sending Cirie home, Tom and Colby silently celebrate as the entire rest of the tribe is shocked and surprised at the outcome, clearly frustrated with J.T.'s flip-flop.

J.T. |
“ | (voting against Cirie) I don't know the answer to why we're losing, but hopefully, just hopefully, we can get rid of the bad apple. | ” |
James |
“ | (voting against Colby) I wanted a distraction. | ” |
Candice |
“ | (voting against Tom) Tom, I think you're a great guy, but hopefully it's you and not me tonight. | ” |
Amanda |
“ | (voting against Tom) Tom, I'm voting for you because I just don't quite trust you, sorry. | ” |
Tom |
“ | (voting against Cirie) Cirie, love you as a person but you are way too good at wrapping some of these weak minds around your little finger and gotta get rid of that on the beach. | ” |
Cirie |
“ | (voting against Tom) Strategy, nothing really personal, just how the game goes. | ” |
Final Words[]
Cirie |
“ | Maybe I said too much or stepped on J.T.'s toes but I couldn't just sit back and play J.T.'s game. I'm playing this game for myself as well, so I couldn't do it! I don't blame them at all, I felt like I was gotten with one of my moves! You know, my hat's off to them... they got me! | ” |
