Phil Szostak is the Creative Art Manager at Lucasfilm Ltd. He is the author of multiple art books, including The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Art of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (including the booklet version in the Target DVD release). Szostak serves in his role concurrently while in the Lucasfilm Story Group, a position he transitioned into more than six months prior to June 7, 2022.

Biography[]

Phil Szostak began his career in Lucasfilm Ltd. on February 2008 as part of the JAK Films Inc., serving in the role of Art Department Coordinator. In August 2011, Phil transitioned to his new role as Continuity/Narrative Designer for Star Wars: 1313 until April 2013. During this time, Phil gained a concurrent role on December 2012 as Image Archivist/Art Department Coordinator, a role he continued in until October 2015 when he transitioned to Content & Asset Specialist.[2] On December 18, 2015, The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was published, a book compiling concept art from Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens and authored by Szostak.[3]

His role as Content & Asset Specialist ended that same month, and began two new roles; Image Editor & Consultant for The Art of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Senior Content & Asset Specialist. His role of Image Editor & Consultant ended on June 2016, and The Art of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was published on December 16 later that year.[4] Szostak continued in his position of Senior Content & Asset Specialist until March 2017, when he transitioned to Creative Art Manager.[2] On December 15, 2017, another of Szostak's authored art books, The Art of Star Wars: The Last Jedi was published.[5] On May 25, 2018, The Art of Solo: A Star Wars Story was published, which was also authored by Szostak.[6] Szostak additionally authored The Art of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which was published on March 31, 2020.[7] Szostak authored the art books The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Season One) and The Art of Star Wars: The Mandalorian (Season Two), published in December 1, 2020 and February 15, 2022, respectively.[8][9] More than six months prior to June 7, 2022, Szostak was inducted into the Lucasfilm Story Group.[1] Szostak wrote the short story “Fancy Man,” which was published on August 29, 2023 as part of the anthology book From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi, and featured the character Maximilian Rebo.
