- "For these reasons, you have been recalled to Coruscant to ensure your safety in this chaotic time and to allow us time to prepare our response to the Nihil threat. It is also why, for the first time in many generations... we are implementing the Guardian Protocols."
- ―Yarael Poof
The Guardian Protocols[2] were rules implemented by the Jedi High Council during the High Republic Era to deal with the Nihil conflict.[1]
History[]
- Pra-Tre Veter: "The Guardians Protocols are an appropriate response."
- Xo Lahru: "As you can see... for the duration of the crisis, many things will change. Combat instruction for older younglings will be accelerated. They will advance to fully operational lightsabers, as quickly as their trainers deem suitable. Padawans of any age will be eligible to undergo the trials and advance to the rank of Knight. While we will not seek out violence, there may be opportunities for targeted strikes."
- Soleil Agra: "Our outpost network will be temporarily staffed by droids. They will relay requests for aid directly to us here."
- Teri Rosason: "The council will evaluate mission assignments on a case-by-case basis."
- Pra-Tre Veter: "The Guardian Protocols will be rescinded when the time is right."
- Xo Lahru: "For now... may the Force be with us all!"
- ―Pra-Tre Veter, Xo Lahru, Soleil Agra and Teri Rosason discussing the Guardian Protocols[1]
The Guardian protocols were implemented by the Jedi High Council many generations before the Nihil conflict.[1]
One method of the Guardian Protocols was to accelerate the Jedi youngling's training by letting them use real lightsabers instead of training lightsabers.[1]
The Jedi Council informed the Galactic Senate of these rules of conduct. The Guardian Protocols also included Jedi Outposts being staffed by droids, pausing of independent research, early Padawan trials, restrictions of resource management, offensive combat as required, and most importantly no Jedi travels alone.[1]
The words of the Guardian Protocols presented to the Galactic Senate were:
- Acceleration of youngling combat instruction
- Outposts staffed by droids
- Independent research paused
- Early Padawan trials
- Resource management restriction
- Offensive combat as required
- No Jedi travels alone[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Charles Soule revealed that the Guardian Protocols were not created for the Nihil conflict and are instead a rarely used group of policies for times of crisis.[3]
