From Стари Француски object, from Medieval Latin obiectum (“object”, literally “thrown against”), from obiectus, perfect passive participle of obiciō (“I throw against”), from ob- (“against”) + iaciō (“I throw”), as a calque of Антички Грчки ἀντικείμενον (antikeímenon). Дублети of objet.
