Ya can’t make it up.
Here’s a new headline focusing on the media. The source, in this case, is from Mediaite: “Jen Rubin Brutally Shreds The Washington Post While Announcing Her Exit: Bezos ‘Bent the Knee’ to Trump.”
The story reports:
CNN’s Brian Stelter reported Monday morning that Rubin had joined forces with CNN legal analyst Norm Eisen to launch a new outlet called The Contrarian, with a tagline “Not Owned By Anybody” that is aimed directly at Bezos and those Rubin describes as the “corporate and billionaire owners” of media outlets who have been revealed to have “compromised principles” in this Trumpian era.
“Rather than anti-Trump, the founders describe their venture as pro-democracy,” wrote Stelter, but there are names well known for their criticism of the incoming 47th president among the contributors who have signed on thus far, including Ruth Ben-Ghiat, Andy Borowitz, George Conway, John Dean, Bob Kagan, Harry Litman, Barb McQuade, Katie Phang, Asha Rangappa, Stephen Richer, and Andrew Weissmann.
The site goes on to report:
“Jeff Bezos and his fellow billionaires accommodate and enable the most acute threat to American democracy — Donald Trump — at a time when a vibrant free press is more essential than ever to our democracy’s survival and capacity to thrive,” wrote Rubin in an introductory column at The Contrarian to announce her resignation from the Post, lamenting how “[c]orporate and billionaire owners of major media outlets have betrayed their audiences’ loyalty and sabotaged journalism’s sacred mission — defending, protecting and advancing democracy.”
Amazing. One doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry at this.
So where to start?
First of all, “journalism’s sacred mission” to Ms. Rubin and her new colleagues is not — say again not — journalism.
They are decidedly not about “defending, protecting, and advancing democracy.”
They are really about “defending, protecting, and advancing” left-wing activism pretending to be independent journalism.
Take a look at those names announced above as now making a home at the Contrarian.
There isn’t a “contrarian” among them. To a person, they are all about far-left activism. Where is a genuine conservative who believes it is the left that is the real threat to democracy? Not a one in the bunch. To have a solitary conservative who would be a contrarian at The Contrarian, not to mention a number that equals the lefties in the group, is not in the cards.
A look-see at Jen Rubin’s columns over time and they all — say again all — tilt far left.
Rubin worships at the left-wing altar of climate change and Bidenomics. Lefties’ policies that have allowed in illegals with criminal backgrounds, as in the murder of Laken Riley? No problem. Defending the corrupt and conflict-of-interest New York Judge Juan Merchan in the Trump case? No big deal. Compromise in a democracy? Nah. No “common ground with Trump.” Birthright citizenship is a right. Birth is not. Sending Putin a message that lets him think he can invade Ukraine and Biden is too weak to do anything about it? Or likewise, telegraphing to Hamas that invading Israel is not a big deal? No problem. God bless Joe.
On and on goes the left-wing catechism which, in reading Rubin’s columns over the years, is standard.
(Liz Cheney, she who betrayed the Constitution with the sham of a decidedly anti-constitutional Jan. 6 investigation) is to Rubin an “honorable Republican” and predictable hero.
No, in Rubin’s world, Trump and his supporters are the problem.
To be clear, Rubin is free to believe whatever she wants. God Bless America and free speech.
The problem comes when she and her left-wing compadres try to pretend that they are staunch supporters of democracy — when they in fact are the opposite.
It shouldn’t need to be said but it is apparently necessary to remind that it is the left’s heroes who have weaponized the law to target Biden’s political opponents — corrupting the administration of law everywhere from the Department of Justice to the district attorney offices in Manhattan and Atlanta. All without a peep of dissent from these “Contrarians” like Jen Rubin.
All of which is to say, Rubin’s departure from The Washington Post where the paper’s left-wing activists pretending to be independent journalists are, like Rubin, in full-scale revolt against real democracy and free speech that new owner Jeff Bezos is standing for. A support for democracy and free speech that doesn’t worship at the altar of left-wing activism. What Rubin is doing with her resignation and attack on Bezos confirms what is already well known: left-wing activists don’t like free speech, dissent, or democracy.
And the new owner of the Washington Post gets it. Which is why he is making changes at the paper.
There is doubtless more coming in the realization by left-wing activists pretending to be journalists that change to their Iron Curtain-style world at places like the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times is coming.
