Sometimes, the writer(s) themselves would book studio time on the cheap and make a quick recording to demonstrate the potential of what a fully-realized production would sound like. If the writer didn’t have the correct voice for the track (or the right anatomy), there were plenty of available session vocalists willing to provide their services for cash. Of course, the name of the vocalist would not appear on the acetate, so all these years later, the identity of many performers remains a mystery.
