Wikipedia:Single-purpose account
Appearance
This essay contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia users. Essays may represent common ideas, or ideas that many users would not support. They are not rules. Think carefully about what they say before following them. |
Some users who create an account use this account in a special way:
- They only change one page, or a group of pages that belong together
- They change many pages, which do not belong together, but they all change them in the same way.
These kinds of accounts are called single-purpose accounts (or SPAs). There are different opinions about such accounts in the community. Some people are concerned that contributions by SPAs do not go with Wikipedia's neutrality or advocacy standards, or that they conflict with what Wikipedia is not. Other people raise counter-concerns. They say that the community needs to attract new and well-informed users knowledgeable in a particular subject. These users need to be able to cite relevant reliably sourced publications. Identifying and interacting with SPAs requires both civility and tact.
