Talk:Punctuation
This is a great article! (maybe because I wrote all of it but the period and apostrophe)! I am a grammar and punctuation obsessive myself. Spellergirl12 22:39, 14 October 2006 (UTC)spellergirl12
Unless you're Ms. Truss this is a bit of a knock off IMHO. I have made a few changes to the hyphen section. Removal of second-person ("you") and made more simple. Bullets substituted for (high-maintenance) item numbering. Sue W 21:38, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
Added info that a comma can be used to indicate a pause and cleaned up, make a couple items bold just for consistency.
Is it me, or are the examples given for Quotation marks a little misleading?
Rather than: "Hallie said, 'Mimi, please wash the dishes.'" "'Today,' said our teacher, 'is the first day of the rest of your lives.'"
Shouldn't they be: Hallie said, "Mimi, please wash the dishes." "Today," said our teacher, "is the first day of the rest of your lives."
Complex
[change source]This page has been getting steadily more complex. Some users have added far too much from En wiki. Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:00, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
- I actually think this is a good article. I would have expected a separate article for each punctuation mark, but this allows readers to see all the important rules of English punctuation on one page. Kk.urban (talk) 17:07, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- My reason is based on what is usual in secondary schools for, say, 14-year-olds. Our wiki is, or should be, student-based rather than content-based. Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:50, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
