San Francisco Restaurant Week is back for its fall edition and runs between Friday, November 8, and Sunday, November 17, treating locals to lunch, brunch, and dinner deals. It’s the bi-annual bid to tempt diners into trying out a new restaurant, bar, or cafe while taking things easy on your wallet.
There are deals across the city’s neighborhoods, including a handful of choices outside the city such as Sushi Ran in Sausalito and Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ in San Jose. Go high-end with dinner deals at Epic Steak, Sushi Shio, and Flour + Water, which is back at Restaurant Week for the first time in years. Try brunch at the new Early to Rise for a dose of eggs Benedict or strawberry pancakes, or sample the Malaysian fried chicken or whole Dungeness crab at Damansara.
In addition to a week of restaurant deals, Eat Drink SF also hosts two events during SFRW: A cocktail party at Cold Drinks Bar and Gold Mountain Lounge on Thursday, November 14, and a finale brunch at Wayfare Tavern on Sunday, November 17. (For more information and to make reservations, head to Eatdrink-sf.com.)
But if you’re having trouble deciding between the many restaurants to eat at, here are a few standouts at various price points.
Brenda’s Soul Food
Lunch and dinner: $35, $45
Chef Brenda Buenviajé’s restaurant tribute to her hometown of New Orleans has been a fixture of Polk Street since its debut in 2007, and this year the restaurant has a tempting offer available for lunch and dinner. Those who still haven’t been to the restaurant would do well to check out the $35 option, a “Creole sampler platter” that is otherwise unavailable on the menu. The meal includes a cup of chicken and Andouille sausage gumbo; a cup of red beans and rice; fried catfish; hushpuppies; and collard greens with bacon. For $45, diners can get a seafood-loaded bowl of gumbo with shrimp, blue crab meat, Andouille sausage, okra, chicken, and Dungeness crab. The second course of both meals guarantees a plain beignet, plus a choice between a glass of wine or beer. Reservations can be made on the restaurant’s website. 652 Polk Street, San Francisco
Dalida
Lunch: $45
Dalida, is the Eastern Mediterranean restaurant from chefs Laura and Sayat Ozyilmaz situated in the picturesque Presidio. Since opening in June 2023, Dalida’s garnered accolades from this publication and a semifinalist nod for the couple for Best Chef: California for the 2024 James Beard Awards, plus a Top Chef stint by Laura Ozyilmaz that aired this past spring. This is the first year the restaurant appears at San Francisco Restaurant Week, and if you have time for a luxurious lunch, the three-course option is worthy of consideration. With the main course, diners will choose between lamb meatballs served with a cherry-tomato sauce and steamed freekeh; ajika flatbread with mushrooms, blistered greens, and Tulum cheese; or a $7 supplement to add on a crispy duck leg with Cretan carob noodles in a Xinomavro red wine sauce, plus grilled endives and heirloom squash. Reservations can be made via the Dalida site. 101 Montgomery Street, Suite 100, San Francisco.
Shuggie’s Trash Pie & Natural Wine
Dinner: $60 for two people
Shuggie’s is known for its focus on sustainability, building a menu around the use of irregular produce, and coupled with the restaurant’s vibrant, maximalist space, it’s attracted plenty of attention since its opening in 2022. Now, the restaurant is joining San Francisco Restaurant Week for the first time, offering a meal deal of a $60 dinner for two people. It hasn’t released its menu just yet, but one can most likely expect a Trash Pie and perhaps a starter, such as the restaurant’s “already famous” vegan garlic knots. Reservations can be made through the Shuggie’s website. 3349 23rd Street, San Francisco
Bettola
Dinner: $45
Step into Bettola, the Italian casual eatery-slash-provisions store, but this time, rather than taking your goods to go, consider staying awhile and giving its dinner menu a try. Diners will get a chance at trying the porchetta or the just-as-hearty lasagna alla Bolognese; vegetarians, meanwhile, will most likely zero in on the zuppa di fave e cicorie, or the fava bean and potato soup with sautéed dandelions. Reservations are available at bettolasf.com. 343 Clement Street, San Francisco
Altamirano
Dinner: $65
If you’ve been curious to try chef Carlos Altamirano’s eponymous Peruvian restaurant on Divisadero, which debuted in September, now’s your chance to get a sampling of the menu. There’s a tempting Sophi sashimi option for the first course, made with ahi tuna tataki and passion fruit, as well as Ferreñafe crab; for the second course, choose between the pimentel lamb shank, the lomo saltado, or stir-fried beef tenderloin, or the Mantaro Road, made with stir-fried shiitake mushrooms and trigotto in smoked aji amarillo sauce. If it’s a warm evening, check out the back patio and the piscos, if you’re looking to buy a cocktail.
Chapeau!
Dinner: $75
Even if you think you’ve gone to this restaurant in its previous 25 years in business, you might want to revisit. Chapeau is now a multi-generational restaurant legacy with the recent addition of chef de cuisine Andrew Gardelle, the son of owners Philippe and Ellen Gardelle. Andrew Gardelle’s made his way through the kitchens at Spruce and the Village Pub, but now he’s at the Clement Street restaurant adding new dishes to the seasonal French menu. There’s no Restaurant Week menu just yet, but expect a selection of solid, classic French dishes, such as the restaurant’s soupe a l’oignon, salade Lyonnaise, and more. Reservations are available via the Chapeau website. 126 Clement Street, San Francisco
The Wild
Dinner: $90
The Wild is a new restaurant from chefs Marc Zimmerman, Peggy Tan, and Mark Lieuw, moving from the wagyu steakhouse menu of the previous Gozu to a restaurant “that delves into a reconnection with the natural world.” Seafood is centered on the Restaurant Week menu, with a choice of Monterey abalone with grilled kohlrabi and Madeira-soaked golden raisins or grilled mussels with white sweet potato for the second course, and a Pacific crudo option for the first course. The dinner ends with a birch-scented ice cream with a candy cap mushroom caramel. Dinner reservations can be found on the Wild’s website. 201 Spear Street, #120, San Francisco
