Hi, I'm Sjors

About me

I am a senior software engineer from the Netherlands with over 20 years of experience in building websites.
I have always believed and relied on the practice of adhering to web standards and over the time I have learned that the basics of HTML, CSS, and Javascript stay the same, but any and all abstractions will become a liability.

I am currently working at Treehouse where I am the principal front-end developer for our consumer facing products Pararius, Huurwoningen, and Rentaroof.

When I am not sitting behind a medium sized screen writing code, I am sitting behind a medium sized screen playing the original Super Mario Kart from 1992.
There are ongoing online competitions in time trial, grand prix speedruns, as well as an yearly in-person competition.

Besides coding and playing Super Mario Kart, I am an avid archer. I shoot in the freestyle recurve discipline (more commonly known as Olympic recurve as that is what is shot at the Olympics), mostly competing in the regional indoor competitions with varying degrees of success. 😅

About this site

This site will mostly be about my learnings and insights as I delve deeper into the world of serverless and functional web apps as well as giving peeks behind the curtains on some of the things I do in my capacity as frontend developer at my day job at Treehouse.

This site is built using Enhance, a framework that leverages the power of native custom elements and runs on AWS using the principles of functional web apps.
