I expected this restaurant to blow me away with the fantastic reviews and the fact it has been mentioned on the Michelin Guide. I was bitterly disappointed. Firstly, the service was pretty awful. We ordered a bottle of white wine, and when it came, they presented us with a red. We told them it was wrong and without even a ‘sorry’ they took it away and came back 10 minutes later with a totally random bottle of wine, which we told them again, was not correct. The starters were served and still no sign of our wine. Like most people who enjoy wine with their food, I was quite miffed that the wine was still not at the table to enjoy it with my starter. I had to go up to the bar to ask for the third time, for the correct bottle of wine. Finally the correct bottle of wine was brought to us (with no apology) and by that time by starter was pretty much cold. I also hate that the wine was given to a male on the table (casual sexism), when I was the one to get up and ask for it! The food was nice but nothing blew us away. As I said, the monkfish starter was cold and my main, which was tuna, was tasty but the accompaniments were the same for every dish as they were shared, and therefore the dishes didn’t pair amazingly with the sides. Considering the price and the way that the Michelin guide has presented this restaurant, I thought I’d be in for a treat. I love my food and frequently visit Michelin star and guide restaurants in my home city, so I know how perfect the food and service can be. Unfortunately, my expectations were not fulfilled at Tmun.
