The restaurant is beautiful and full of history. Very friendly and professional staff.
The menu offers a wide range of dishes but yes, it's on the expensive side.
I had the "whole you can eat" lutefisk made from aged stockfish. It was excellent. But 648 kr. is unduly high.
I also tried the pinnekjøtt (lamb ribs) for an extra cost for switching dish in the "whole you can eat" dinner plan. That was also excellent and very traditional.
Our waiter Kim André was extremely friendly, professional and knowledgeable. An asset for Engebret Cafe.
It was a very nice experience but it's on the expensive side for sure: 1156 kr. for a dinner with 2 beers per person and they charge for coat check as well.
But it's an experience you pay for and it's not everyday that you can eat those traditional Norwegian dishes.
