Nurturing Creativity Through the Serve & Return Approach in Early Childhood Education
Abstract/Contents
- Abstract
- The Filming Interactions to Nurture Development (FIND) initiative within the Stanford Center on Early Childhood is inspired by the Serve and Return framework from the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University. FIND focuses on enhancing the caregiving skills of early childhood educators by reinforcing naturally occurring, developmentally supportive interactions. My project involved implementing and evaluating FIND at the All Five education center, culminating in two deliverables. These include the FIND Coaching Video, capturing authentic interactions between All Five caregivers/educators and children, and a professional development workshop on nurturing creativity in the classroom. In an effort to provide additional context, I wrote a summary document outlining the project's purpose and application, and I created a poster presentation to share insights and experiences gained throughout the project. Through meticulous analysis and observation, I utilized the FIND coaching method to support educators in recognizing and cultivating positive interactions with children, including fostering creativity. This supportive approach was essential in highlighting the collaborative efforts and outcomes achieved within the Stanford Center on Early Childhood's FIND Team.
