As of January 2025, this is my volunteer Phabricator account. Previously it was my staff account for my work for the WMF. If you need to contact me in my WMF capacity please ping @Jdlrobson-WMF instead.

If I am commenting with this account I am acting in my volunteer capacity and does not represent my work at the WMF. I am mostly here to help editors use the software and improve template/content/gadget compatibility where I can.

Occasionally I will unintentionally use this account for admin tasks during my lunch break (e.g. assigning points, moving columns) on my personal device. I am trying to fix that behaviour! Only accidental comments will be corrected (delete and repost under staff account).

The two issues you raise actually seem like positives to me. Generally I would be worried about encouraging the writing of tests in two different libraries and the fragment it leads to. To be truly honest I would love on the long term for us to move fully away from QUnit to Jest in core and that is at least what I am seeing in new extensions. Jest has various benefits such as snapshot testing, quicker execution and code coverage scores/enforcement.

The buttons in the footer lazy load SVG files via network request. To use CSS variables in them you would need to embed them which would significantly increase the download size of every page view.

These articles were already broken as they broke the viewport making Minerva sidebar forcing the browser to zoom out and add horizontal scroll to the entire article. This has long been documented on https://m.mediawiki.org/wiki/Recommendations_for_mobile_friendly_articles_on_Wikimedia_wikis (add the noresize class)

I would gently push back at this. This sounds like it would encourage the use of Jest for integration tests rather than unit tests (which is one of the things I didn't like about our use of QUnit) and overall lead to a lot of slowdown.

I think the real question here is fixing the issue here to make sure these messages are not unstyled when they happen. When we remove the logging the UI for these pages could potentially break. I will look into this today.
