Proposed Revisions to the Uzbek Wikipedia Logo
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Good day,

The logo of the Uzbek Wikipedia contains a minor mistake. Specifically, the word "ensiklopediya" should not be capitalized, similar to the Russian Wikipedia logo. (A 1995 parliamentary decree on Uzbek language spelling rules states that only the first letter of "ministries and agencies, companies and organizations" should be capitalized. ) Additionally, we have discussed changing the word "ochiq" to "erkin," as the former means "open" while the latter means "free." Therefore, "Ochiq Ensiklopediya" should be replaced with "Erkin ensiklopediya." The community has unanimously supported both revisions.

We couldn't find an SVG version of our current logo, so we would need assistance in creating the updated logo.

UPD: User:Kurmanbek has kindly created the new logo for us. I've tested the logo and it looks excellent! As for when the logo should be enabled, we have no preference. Essentially, as soon as possible.

Thank you for your help!

Ah, I meant to say that we hadn't found a volunteer to create the new logo for us! User:Kurmanbek (whom I've tagged here) has kindly created the new logo for us. Please let us know if the file should be renamed and, if so, what the new name should be.

Thank you for sharing the meta page on configuration changes. I've tested the logo and it looks excellent! As for when the logo should be enabled, we have no preference. Essentially, as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

Hi! Any update, folks? Since we're changing the motto, relevant changes must be made on other places where the motto is mentioned, although I can't seem to remember on what pages the moto is displayed. Do we have to create a new request for that or can it all be done in one go?

The Vector 2022 tagline also needs to be updated. Uzwiki's tagline is a legacy local tagline not on Commons (only available at) https://uz.wikipedia.org/static/images/mobile/copyright/wikipedia-tagline-uz.svg. So someone needs to either download that file, modify it appropriately, and upload it to Commons, or extract the tagline from the logo SVG and upload it to Commons (and then another config patch needs to be deployed)

Someone here might get to one of those tasks eventually, but no promises.

(Sorry for the delay here, logo editing is one of the messier kinds of site request and only a few people, not really including myself yet, are comfortable doing it so things languish easily.)

Good day, @Pppery! @Jelican9 has kindly created a new vector tagline and uploaded it to Commons. What do we do next?

Someone needs to submit a patch to the operations/mediawiki-config repo to use the new logo and schedule it for deployment. That might be me eventually, but again no promises as I have a lot going on right now and logos changes are complicated to do and not on my priority list.

I think we're finally done here.

Hey, everyone! Actually, one issue remains: on user pages, the automatically generated info about the user still reads "Vikipediya, ochiq ensiklopediya" instead of "Vikipediya, erkin ensiklopediya." Could we please fix this as well?

That seems to be https://uz.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Tagline, and managed on-wiki

Reclosing.
