Despite the weather cooling down, Portland restaurant openings are heating up. Here are the biggest new Portland restaurants on the horizon, from the Portland expansion of Spain’s Michelin-guide-recommended Can Font, to acclaimed Renata’s recently announced sister-cafe, Figlia. Here’s what to get excited about this winter:
Beer Belly
Location: 1205 SW Washington St.
Players: Rick Gencarelli, ChefStable
The Situation: Lardo, the iconic Portland sandwich shop, has always been a craft beer bar in disguise, and now owner Rick Gencarelli's appreciation for the suds will result in a full-fledged beer bar. Beer Belly will open on the same West End block as Gencarelli's Grassa and Lardo.

Can Font
Location: 1075 NW Northrup St.
Players: Vladimir Zaharchook-Williams, Josep Vidal
The Situation: Chef Josep Vidal operates Can Font in Spain, a restaurant recommended by the Michelin guide that operates in the countryside near Barcelona. Can Font Portland will serve “traditional Catalan fine cuisine with locally sourced products in a modern Northwest atmosphere.”

Chalino
Location: 1 N Fremont St.

The Situation: Beaverton-born Johnny Leach (Momofuku) made waves last year when he and Peter Cho (Han Oak; Eater PDX’s 2016 Restaurant of the Year) launched the Stray Dogs and Stray Birds pop-ups. Chalino is shaping up to serve “inauthentic” Mexican-inspired plates.

Danwei Canting

The Situation: Former Bluehour executive chef Kyo Koo will helm a new Chinese restaurant. It'll serve the regional Chinese dishes co-owner James Kyle fell in love with while living in Beijing for more than a decade.

Figlia

Players: Sandra and Nick Arnerich of Renata
The Situation: Renata hit the ground running in 2015, earning the title of The Oregonian’s 2015 Restaurant of the Year just weeks after opening. Its follow-up, Figlia, will be a 42-seat cafe serving breakfast and lunch, including some popular Renata plates.

Guero No.1 Tortas
Location: 200 NE 28th Ave.

The Situation: Taking over Tabla’s old space, the Guero No.1 Tortas food truck is going brick and mortar to serve its signature tortas, like the Pollo Pibil, made with Yucatecan-style chicken in a achiote and citrus marinade.

Heart Pizza

The Situation: From the co-founder of Little Big Burger and Blue Star Donuts comes a new fast-casual chainlet dedicated to pizzas. Second and third locations are already planned for Downtown and Northeast Portland.

Jackrabbit
Location: 545 SW Taylor St., inside Executive Tower of Hilton
Players: Chris Cosentino, Oliver Wharton
The Situation: Famous for his television performances, including winning Top Chef Masters, Chris Cosentino (San Francisco’s Cockscomb; Napa Valley’s Acacia House) will bring a restaurant with a raw bar and house-cured meats program, as well as some of his signature dishes, to Portland.

No Bones Beach Club
Location: 3928 N Mississippi Ave.

The Situation: Developing from a vegan pop-up and food truck in Seattle, No Bones Beach Club is all about having fun, with a tiki decor, plastic shark shot glasses, and Polynesian-inspired vegan plates. This is its first expansion outside Seattle.

The Situation: The boundary-pushing supper club has grown up, moving out of its temporary perch inside Shift Drinks, to serve many-coursed prix fixe meals inspired by adventures through the Pacific Northwest countryside in a brick and mortar. Prepare for extreme, but refined, foraging.

QuickFish

The Situation: Bamboo Sushi hopped on the poke trend in July with The Annex, and now it’s ready to unleash an entirely new restaurant concept in its place: QuickFish Poke Bar. The Annex will be no longer, and QuickFish is already looking to expand.

Roe

The Situation: Roe, one of the city's best seafood restaurants, hasn't announced when it'll reopen in a new location on the westside; however, the opening is so hotly anticipated we're including it on the off chance it does open this winter. In the meantime, you can dine in the current SE Division location until the new venue's construction is complete.
