Call for Applications

The Office of Undergraduate Research is soliciting applications for a pilot program for FY25. This program will provide funding for faculty to work with 1-4 undergraduates on a research or creative project. Students should be working cohesively on a single project.

University of Iowa faculty across all colleges are eligible to apply for these funds, which will be available on a rolling basis. Projects should be student-research driven. Successful applications will detail how this work enriches the student experience, helps towards student goals, and advances PI scholarship. While the undergraduate students do not need to be identified at the time of submission, their information must be provided to the Office of Undergraduate Research as soon as possible as these funds are awarded directly to the students.

Proposals that focus on distinctive collaborative opportunities such as writing and communication, brain science and mental health, and cancer research and patient care are especially encouraged.

Budget

Each undergraduate researcher will receive a scholarship of up to $2,500 for the academic year (up to $1250 per semester) and $3,000 for the summer term. Award amount may vary dependent upon when the project begins. During the academic term, students will be enrolled in URES 4000 for 1 credit hour.

Applicants may request an additional funding for the project not to exceed $1,000. An itemized budget is required. Items that can be included in the budget are as follows: travel to conduct field research, supplies, digital access.  The following items do not qualify for this funding: travel to conferences or presentations, participant reimbursement (i.e. gift cards), computers, etc. All funds must be used by the project end date, which can be no later than the end of the summer term 2025.

At the conclusion of the award term, the team will submit a final report to the Office of Undergraduate Research. This submission can vary by project in its form from a written report of 3-5 pages (with figures and works cited) to recordings/videos documenting the work and final product. Projects are also encouraged to present their findings at one of our campus poster events.
