Ottawa firefighters were battling a barn fire on Albion Road between High Road and Rideau Road on Wednesday night.
After receiving a 911 call at 7:30 p.m. about smoke and sparks being visible at the barn, Ottawa Fire Services responded by sending a variety of equipment, including tankers, because the area is “unwatered”. When crews arrived, they saw flames shooting from the farm. A second alarm was declared at 7:42 to call for extra resources.
No animals were in the building, the fire service said in a news release, but it was being used to store vehicles and equipment. In the release issued just after 9 p.m., Ottawa fire said firefighters had taken a defensive approach and remained on the scene “in active suppression duties”.
No injuries had been reported at the time the release was sent out and an Ottawa fire investigator was en route to the scene to determine a cause.
No other information was immediately available.
