It’s been a Pink Pony year — you might not have heard of Chappell Roan six months ago, but you now have a Spotify Wrapped dominated by “Good Luck, Babe!” and a deep desire to make a TikTok video serenading a guinea pig. So, what to buy these fans (both old and new) for the holidays? When compiling this guide, I thought of my own experiences as a fan — when I saw Roan in London earlier this year, each night the streets were full of people who had fully committed to the Midwest-princess aesthetic, from bedazzled cowboy boots to Chappell-esque hair and baby tees. I also enlisted the help of some OG Chappell fans who run dedicated fan accounts across X and Instagram. Their suggestions ranged from Midwest cowgirl accessories, scrapbooking and bedazzling activities that embody the Chappell Roan spirit, as well as makeup and glitter actually worn by Roan during her festival and tour dates this year.
The one thing that each Roan fan recommended as the best gift? A ticket to a local drag show. “It’s a wonderful experience; you’re supporting and uplifting local people in your own community, and if you’re lucky, you may even make a friend or two,” says fan Kyla Beauprey (a.k.a. “chappell roan’s vocal flip” on X). Emphasis on the local here: Roan selected queens from each city’s local scene as her support acts throughout her 2024 tour. You can find your local queens (and kings) on Instagram — if you’re not sure where to start, find the names of the queens who supported Roan at your closest tour date, and take it from there.
Beauty
When Chappell took to TikTok to talk through her curly-hair routine, Rizos’s curl definer was doing a lot of the heavy lifting. I took a peek at the ingredients list and was impressed by the lightweight formula and intensely hydrating mix of aloe vera, coconut, and shea butters.
For the fan who wants to re-create the Chappell of Liberty, here’s the custom mix makeup artist Andrew Dahling used. I did some deep digging and discovered it was a mix of Sunset makeup foundation and Danessa Myricks’s color fix.
Glitter was a popular gift suggestion: Kyla from Manila (who runs the ChappellRoanPH fan account) also recommended gifting anything that a fan can dress and drag themselves up in. The fan behind the hugely popular ChappellRoanStyle Instagram account suggests the Lemonhead space paste she wore at both the Osheaga and Lollapalooza festivals.
For Roan’s SNL performance, her nail artist Juan Alvear used products from Aprés Nail to craft her two bespoke acrylic sets. Aprés Nail sells sets to DIY your nails at home, but for those less nail-savvy, I spotted some Midwest-princess vibe press-on nails that are just as giftable.
Half Magic is the makeup brand from Donni Davy, a makeup artist on Euphoria and more recently to Roan herself — she was behind Roan’s Coachella makeup. I own a few of these — they’re a great gift as they’re so user-friendly and easy to clean up.
Fashion
I instantly recognized this tank from Blondita in Roan’s Story back in the fall. She’s worn a few of its slogan tops (including a “Girls Love My Swag” crewneck) both in her Instagram Stories and during intimate preshow performances for fans. (You might also recognize the brand from Sabrina Carpenter’s “Taste” music video, for any Roan–Carpenter hybrid fans out there.)
I’ve spotted Roan wearing earrings from handmade brand G1000 a few times this year. Those specific pairs aren’t available, but you can purchase a mystery pair of one-off, handmade earrings that are made to order.
A pair of pink cowboy boots are sort of unofficial Chappell Roan uniform: They were a dime a dozen in the queue for her Brixton, London, show.
Roan has had several bodysuits made for her by British brand Easy Tiger — you can actually purchase the exact one she wears for her “My Kink Is Karma”–themed tour dates. (The matching hat is currently sold out, but there are plenty of sequined alternatives.)
This pink bandana — regularly sold out at Roan’s festival-merch stands — is a great gift for both fans who managed to catch her this summer and those who are hoping to when she’s back out on the road.
Add one of these caps — there are dozens of colorways available, but none say Midwest princess like baby pink and denim.
Merchandise
This limited-edition vinyl first-anniversary reissue was designed with Roan’s close friend Ramisha Sattar. It contains a pack of Midwest-princess-themed paper dolls, as well as a sleeve fashioned after theater curtains so that fans can use it as their own stage.
A decision we all must make in life. (Also the one piece of Roan merch music editor Matthew Schnipper told us he’d gift this year.)
I love merch that doesn’t quite look like merch, like this medieval “Femininomenon” tote.
Décor
I can’t track down the cake from the “My Kink Is Karma” video, so here’s the next-best thing: a trinket box that won’t spoil.
A Jellycat guinea pig, so they can re-create Roan’s early TikToks (where she serenades her guinea pig with demos of “Naked in Manhattan”).
A mirrored disco ball is an essential for anyone trying to emulate the “Pink Pony Club” experience at home. Beauprey says she has her eye on this one.
Books
Lately, Roan has performed an unreleased song titled “The Subway”; it’s all about spotting an ex out and about. “Many people mentioned the similarities between ‘The Subway’ and One Last Stop, by Casey McQuiston,” Beauprey told me.
Hobbies
Gunnar Deatherage is the designer behind Roan’s feathered ensemble on Jimmy Fallon and her velvet, vintage burlesque outfit for her SNL promo. Just watching his explainer videos behind both outfits, including his inspiration and process, has motivated me to dust off my sewing machine. Deatherage has a Patreon subscription that teaches people how to sew and design patterns. If you don’t want to commit to a full subscription, though, you can also purchase individual sewing patterns to follow at home. I’d recommend this very glamorous (and very Roan) widow-robe pattern.
Both the fan behind @ChappellRoanStyle and Beauprey recommended this exact rhinestoning kit to me. They both prefer it to a pre-bedazzled gift, as it allows you to get into the creative spirit.
Roan is known for crafting and scrapbooking. So a Polaroid is a great gift idea, the fan behind @ChappellRoanStyle tells me. (She also pointed me toward lyrics from one of Roan’s earlier songs: “Can we take more Polaroids for you to hide?”)
This book is kind of like a guided introduction to scrapbooking. It has 15 creative projects that are designed to inspire creativity, craftiness, and journaling. The fan behind @ChappellRoanStyle says the gift is extra-special, as it can be done with a group of fellow fans.
