What Carli Lloyd Can’t Live Without

If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts. Not the JAR brooch and Louis XV chair but the hair spray and electric toothbrush. We asked Carli Lloyd — a world-champion soccer player and ambassador for massage-device brand Symbodi — about the sparkling water she reaches for, the Philly sports teams she reps, and the L.A. coffee shop where she buys her beans.

I’m not huge on sweet drinks with added sugars. I drink a lot of water throughout the day, just regular water, but LaCroix for me is just the right mix. It’s not Über-sweet, but it gives you a different balance than regular water. It’s more flavorful and a healthier choice than picking up anything else usually. I always grab a LaCroix en route to the airport. Whenever I’m on the road, I’m always trying to find my favorite flavors. I like all of them, but I’d say that LimonCello is my favorite. KeyLime is cool too.

I’m fascinated by planes. With my career, I’m a frequent flier, but I’d love to sit in the pilot’s seat one day. I wouldn’t call myself a gamer, but pilots spend a fair deal of time in simulators, so this is a worthwhile beginner’s option. I think you could tell by my going on the TV show Special Forces that I’m an adrenaline junkie to some degree.

I’ve always been a Philly sports fan, so it’s fun to have some cool swag and be able to support my home team. We have different seasons for different sports. Whether it’s the Sixers, Union, Eagles, or Phillies, I try to show my support. My favorite piece of merch is probably my Philly Union hoodie. It’s comfy, and I travel in it a lot.

I hate holding my phone up to my ear, so if I’m not wearing my AirPods, I’ll usually have it on speaker. I love the noise-canceling capabilities. And obviously, I run in them as well. So it’s kind of two for one — using them to take calls and as my headphones while running.

I’ve just started trying products from this brand called Poofy Organics, and I really like them. They’re a local New Jersey spot. I have the lip balm in the eucalyptus spearmint flavor, and I keep it on me all the time. I generally like my groceries and beauty products to be more on the clean, organic side.

I’m a cappuccino gal, so I have a Breville machine that does all of the grinding for me. I love fresh-ground beans. In the morning, I’ll make my cappuccino with some oat milk, though sometimes, I’ll do black coffee. The machine is high-quality stainless steel, consistent, reliable, and worth the investment. It’s one of those products that pays for itself after a few uses.

I love finding a local coffee shop, not a chain coffee shop, wherever I travel, discovering those little hidden gems. La Colombe is a Philly brand that I like to pop into where I live. Two Guns Coffee is a place that, when we used to play out in L.A., our team would always make runs there. It’s such a good coffee spot that I’m still ordering beans from them. I usually go for a medium roast, but if you want to mix it up, Two Guns offers subscription boxes with all of its different flavors.

These earplugs are cheap and easy to travel with. The brand doesn’t really matter — I just need to have something with me. I’m on the road an awful lot, and you never know where a hotel might be in a given city or what distractions might exist there.

I’ve been playing professional soccer for 17 years, but now that I’m not playing, I don’t necessarily take care of myself as routinely as I used to with massages a couple of times a week. I’ve used all of the recovery tools out there, and there’s nothing else like the Vertigun on the market. The No. 1 thing is it’s powerful — it’s capable of getting into trigger-point areas and massaging things out. You can stick it to the wall with the little suction-cup adapter and move and maneuver yourself around without having to use a handheld, which makes it a whole lot easier. And it’s compact — it doesn’t take up a whole lot of room when I’m traveling, so I can use it anywhere.
