The Best Kindle Paperwhite Cases on Amazon, According to Hyperenthusiastic Reviewers

Here at the Strategist, we like to think of ourselves as crazy (in the good way) about the stuff we buy, but as much as we’d like to, we can’t try everything. Which is why we have People’s Choice, in which we find the best-reviewed products and single out the most convincing. While we’ve covered cool back-to-school essentials, including the best laptopswireless mouses and keyboards, and laptop tables and carts, here we’re zeroing in on the best cases for the Kindle Paperwhite e-reader, as reviewed on Amazon. (Note that reviews have been edited for length and clarity.)

Best synthetic leather cases

“LET ME TELL YOU: This is the cover you want for your Kindle Paperwhite! First, the Kindle fits snugly into the cover’s ‘pocket,’ so that there is a great bumper of protection all around your Kindle. The material of the Omoton is fantastic; it has a nice, slight grid texture that makes the grip safer, and it is lightweight — it hardly adds any weight. And if there was ever a spill (blast that thought!), the cover would wipe clean. Have you ever bought a pair of shoes that fit, looked good, and wore like a dream — so great that you wanted to buy another pair while the first pair was still new? That’s how I feel about my Omoton!”

“I knew I wanted a case for my Paperwhite since it would end up in a backpack from time to time. Spending $40 on a case is a bit over the top for me, but then going with the cheap one is a risk. This case was worth the risk. It looks really nice, the black has some texture to it that provides something to grip onto. It fits like a glove as well, the Paperwhite snaps into the holder, and I have zero fear of it falling out. And it’s not too heavy, it doesn’t add much weight to the Paperwhite, and it feels about like a decently thick paperback book. All in all, a top-notch choice in a case for your Paperwhite.”

“Odd as it might sound, this cover seems to transform my Kindle — makes it feel like an old treasured book that I can take with me. Must be how some people feel about carrying around an old Bible perhaps. Not sure what it is other than the high quality, which was unexpected for this price. Purely an emotion-based rating, as the case simply does what it’s supposed to do. I’m finding myself using this new Kindle Paperwhite with this new cover more often than my old Kindle — a great deal of it having to do with this case! The new Kindle by itself felt unremarkable until I put it in this case, then it transformed. Go figure.”

“I love it. I love, love, love it. To my surprise, the material has held up amazingly well to my rough handling of my Kindle. I’ve been disappointed time and time again with cheap cases that chip and peel, not to mention that are bulky and unattractive. THIS case is so slim, it’s like there’s nothing on it at all, and the magnetic closure and smart feature that turns it on when you open the cover … everything about it is convenient and just great. No annoying straps holding down the corners like most cases have (I always found those distracting while reading). I would recommend this wholeheartedly over ANY other case out there. It’s affordable, it’s light as air, the material on the inside is so smooth and comfortable to hold, and it looks great, so no complaints at all!”

Best leather case

“My husband has used this cover for several years. He takes his Kindle virtually everywhere. A couple of years ago he left his Kindle on top of his truck. We watched as it flew off and onto the road at 50 mph. It was run over by a couple of cars before we could turn around to retrieve it from the wet road. We went back to remove the potential road hazard, thinking that we definitely need to order a new Kindle. The cover sustained some scratches and looked slightly ragged, but the Kindle was unharmed and worked perfectly! Awesome!”

Best printed cases

“This is the cutest thing. I have dropped my Kindle Paperwhite twice since I put the cover on and it was just fine. I know protection is the most important thing, but it’s also nice to have a case that is pretty and different than what is available at general retail outlets. This couldn’t be cuter. I may buy another one or two just to change up once in a while. There were so many cute options it was hard to decide.”

“LOVE THIS! I bought three cases before I settled on this one. I love the graphics and it has a bit of a texture to it, which I like because it feels like I’m holding a book a little bit. The auto-wake/sleep feature works perfectly and I’m able to fold the cover back behind the Kindle easily without it breaking and without it accidentally going to sleep. Very nicely made. I can tell this will last.”

“I love my beautiful blue, botanical Kindle case! It’s so pretty and elegant, without being overwhelmingly feminine. I especially like how the Kindle sits so securely in the case, even when it is accidentally dropped! Once, when I was reading on my bed, holding the book slightly over the edge as I sprawled across the bed on my belly, in a klutzy moment, the book jumped out of my hands and fell to its doom … but during the drop, the cover popped right over the front of the Kindle, latching the magnet and saving poor Kindle from destruction. Hooray! Not even a scratch!”

Best cloth case

“I love this case! It feels just a little sophisticated and perfect for my first Kindle! I wanted something that would match my home décor when it is left lying on a side table or something and it matches perfectly! The leather and gray go really nicely together. I was afraid that my kindle would feel really big with this case on, but I actually prefer holding my Kindle with the case now instead of without one!”

Best standing cases

“What a terrific case! This is my second case for this Kindle and I think it will be my ‘forever’ case. I really didn’t think I would need a case that propped up my Kindle in a standing position … thought, How lazy can I be? Well, I’m THAT lazy and I love it! Very well designed case, all cut edges are sealed and I even like the little touch of the three strips of material to hold the Kindle upright, which are of the same pattern as the outside. So far in all my folding and unfolding, the case hasn’t weakened in any of the creases and my Kindle stands up securely; it doesn’t twist or lean to one side. The case is bulkier than others out there, but it feels SOLID. The magnet holds the cover closed securely and I feel that my Kindle is well-protected with this MoKo case … and stylish, too!”

“The cover is simply brilliant. I travel a lot for work, and so I use an e-reader often while I am eating alone. This case has a folding-cover system so that you can open it, then fold the cover into an easel-like stand that holds the Kindle in a perfect reading position! The cover seems to be stuffed with magnets, so that it sticks in this position quite firmly and easily, so it won’t unfold while you are reading. Another feature is that the cover is magnetic enough that it will easily support the weight of the Kindle if you stick it to a metal surface like a filing cabinet or fridge. It does add a bit of thickness to the Kindle, as one would expect, but not inconveniently so — in fact, I have normal to large hands and I find it easier to hold the Kindle with this cover than without. It seems to be very protective — I have not drop-tested it, but I think that it would pass that test if asked.”

Best sleeve covers

“This sleeve is great — it’s made with great quality and my Kindle Paperwhite fits perfectly inside. The sleeve is light yet sturdy and the inside is lined with a soft felt material. It doesn’t shed and will not scratch either. I liked this case so much I bought a bigger sleeve for my laptop. I would definitely recommend this case.”

“Excellent minimal case to protect my Kindle while carrying it in a bag. The fake leather actually looks similar to real leather, and it is even wearing in the way you would expect real leather to, with some scuffs and marks that actually make it look even nicer. Like others have said, it’s a tight fit at first, but it stretches a little over time to fit perfectly. It doesn’t overstretch at all, so it remains secure. Make sure you put the Kindle in with the logo showing, otherwise it can be really hard to get out. It’s a great case to provide protection when traveling, but at the same time you can use your Kindle as you normally would instead of having a case in the way. I highly recommend this case!”
