Perpetually busy East Village restaurant MáLà Project is making its way uptown for the lunch crowd. Restaurateur Amelie Kang is expanding to a location at 41 West 46th Street, between Sixth and Fifth Avenues.

The new, more-than-60 seat restaurant will offer the same Chinese dry hot pot that’s available downtown — where diners can choose a bunch of different ingredients cooked into spicy, tingly concoctions.

This outpost will have preset lunch selections, though, Kang says. For between $11 and $13, people can choose from 10 dry pots with pre-selected ingredients, which will feature a main protein and three non-meat items. Options will include fish, lamb, and chicken, with additions such as potato and cauliflower. At dinner, only the choose-your-own-adventure option will be available, like downtown. Kang expects the location to open in mid-December. See the full menus below.

MáLà Project first opened in the East Village in 2015. This will be the second outpost of the restaurant for Kang, but she also recently opened a homey Chinese takeout spot in FiDi called Tomorrow. If all goes well, Kang would like to keep expanding, at least a little bit. Eventually, she’d like to have two or three more outposts in the city.

Stay tuned for the lunch

menu and more.
