International Graduate Programs Office at NPS: International Student Engagement - International Graduate Programs Office
Student Social & Cultural Engagement
Embarking on your academic journey at the Naval Postgraduate School offers more than just a world-class education; it opens the door to a wealth of unique opportunities through the programs offered by the International Graduate Programs Office (IGPO). The Field Studies Program (FSP) provides international military students an opportunity to gain an understanding of U.S. culture, institutions, and ideals through trips, tours, and other group activities. The Sponsor Program ensures a smooth transition, pairing international students with American students who offer invaluable support and friendship. IGPO also offers three courses tailored for international officers: IT1500, a seminar course that's part of the FSP, and IT1600 and IT1700, which are English as a Second Language courses.
The Field Studies Program (FSP) gives international military students (IMS) the opportunity to obtain a balanced understanding of the U.S. through activities and events that expose them to American society, institutions, and ideals.
The objective of the Sponsor Program is to make international military students (IMS) feel welcome. IGPO recruits American students at NPS to sponsor international students, providing the IMS and their families help in adjusting to life in the U.S.
IGPO offers three courses specifically for international officers at NPS: IT1500, IT1600, and IT1700. IT1500 is a seminar course and part of the Field Studies Program. IT1600 and IT1700 are English as a Second Language Courses.
Connecting with the Community: Enriching Your NPS Experience
In addition to IGPO's programs, there are many other ways for you and your spouses to get involved on campus and in the wider Monterey community through non-profit organizations, non-federal entitites, and student-led initiatives that provide valuable experiences and opportunities for international students and their families attending the Naval Postgraduate School.
The IEC, a student-led non-federal entity, fosters relationships among international students, eases their transition into life in the U.S., and organizes recreational activities for international students and their families. The IEC's biggest community-wide event and fundraiser is the annual International Day, showcasing the culture and cuisine of our international students!
