Announcing DartConf

We’re aflutter to announce the official Dart conference in Los Angeles on January 23-24, 2018. The event will be even bigger and better than last year, with exciting talks about Dart 2.0, Flutter, Dart Dev Compiler, AngularDart, and much more. UPDATE : Please learn more and register here . We’re moving the annual conference from October to January for two reasons: We want our speakers to be available for the other conferences that are happening in the Fall. Each year, September to November is full of events where the team can reach developers unaware of the awesomeness of all things Dart. Likewise, we don’t want you to have to choose between DartConf and other great events. Lots of new things are coming to Dart in the new year. Place: Google Los Angeles Time: January 23-24, 2018 Pre-registration: [CLICK HERE] The event will be live-streamed and sessions will be recorded. Ask questions at [email protected].

Dart App Wins Google Glass Hackathon

High-fives to team GlassFrogger, who used  Dart and HTML5 to win the Breaking Glass hackathon on August 18th, 2013. They ported the classic arcade game Frogger to Google Glass and its embedded web browser. "A lot of this was discovery...we wanted to see what we could exploit without having to write a native app. How can we reuse our code? We can write this once and deploy it anywhere [with Dart and HTML5].", said Adam Singer, developer on GlassFrogger. Hop  on over to the  video  of the demo pitch and a bit of game play.  Engadget and Robert Scoble  covered the winners, and were impressed by the effort. The game , while not complete, was built entirely during the 48-hour hackathon. Luckily, the Dart code is  open source  and you can try it with or without glass (try spacebar to move forward, not sure there's a move backward yet. Did we mention it's open source?) The Dart app is compiled to JavaScript, so that it can run across Glass and...

3 Dart events at GOTO Conference

Next week, Dart is going to be at the  GOTO Conference  in Aarhus, Denmark!  We have three Dart events this year. Dart User Group and Code Lab After an introduction to the language, we'll guide you through all the steps to create your first Dart application. The code lab was battle tested in June during Google I/O, and is ready to go. We'll lead you through the process of building a modern web app with the Dart platform, using both client-side and server-side Dart. You will explore the language, libraries, editor, and integration with Chromium. You'll leave this session with a working Dart app that works in modern browsers. Register now! Translating Dart to efficient JavaScript To make Dart run in all modern browsers, we have implemented an optimizing Dart-to-JavaScript compiler. Performance-wise the biggest challenge is the gap between the semantics of Dart's low-level operators and JavaScript's builtin primitives. This presentation will intro...

Sydney GTUG has fun with Dart

Posted by Seth Ladd Learning Dart at the Sydney Google office On the night of Tuesday the 20th of March, the trusty crew of the Sydney GTUG gathered at the hallowed halls of the Sydney Googleplex to learn the ins and outs of the Dart programming language. Pizza was consumed, questions were asked, Dart Editors edited, and Dart compilers compiled. For two and a half hours, everyone was head down, tails up, giving this shiny new technology a very close inspection, and at the end of the night, everyone went home happy, having learned a new thing or two about this great new programming language! Thanks to Brett Morgan and the Syndey GTUG crew for hosting this Dart event. Want your Dart event advertised here? Drop us a line and we'll help get the word out!

Balloons and Dart at Seattle GTUG

Posted by Seth Ladd Last night, I presented an Introduction to Dart to a very fun and engaged crowd at the Seattle GTUG . Many thanks to Clive Boulton and Brandon Donnelson for organizing the event, and to Chris Wilson for hosting. The highlight of the evening was the creative and interactive Dart board, conceived and built by Brandon. The balloons are almost ready, covering the Dart board: After all the balloons are popped (with darts, of course!) we see key Dart phrases and quiz questions: Brandon captured lots of pics from the event. Thanks to everyone who came to the talk, there was a great energy, and insightful comments and questions. Slides for this talk, and others, are available at dartlang.org/slides/ .
