Nashville staple McCabe’s Pub prepares for its last day of service
After 41 years, the family-owned and operated McCabe’s Pub will welcome guests for its final dining services in January 2024.
Opened in 1982 by John and Jo Dean, McCabe’s was named after the nearby city-owned golf course, a moniker that was recognizable to most locals outside of the Sylvan Park neighborhood. But what began as a sports bar soon evolved into a bonafide lunch-and-dinner establishment known for its welcoming atmosphere and comforting takes on American Southern cuisine. Locals filled McCabe’s seats for the pub’s popular char-grilled burgers and hand-cut fries, pan-fried trout, meat-and-three plates, home-style specials like meatloaf and casseroles, and homemade cakes.
In 2002, the Deans’ daughter Stefanie Dean Brown took the reigns from her parents, running the restaurant’s operations along with her sister Katie Dean Egbert.
McCabe’s Pub received numerous awards and accolades over their decades of business, winning titles like “Favorite Neighborhood Bar,” “Best Burger,” and “Best Dessert” throughout the years. The annual McCabe Pub Crawfish Boil also raised thousands of dollars and increased awareness for lymphangioleiomyomatosis and the LAM Foundation, leaving a mark on Nashville beyond its hospitality.
The restaurant, which is currently open for lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., has not announced a specific closing date outside of January 2024 but will keep the public updated via its Instagram account here.
