Personality[]

Like Kanae's family, she is shown to be a hot-blooded and passionate woman about fighting and getting stronger.

History[]

Sixteen years ago, before the start of the series, Kanae was in Edo where she first met Genjuurou Tsukishima, whom she knew from rumor and challenged him to a duel, which was what Genjuurou wanted. As they dueled, they were both deeply impressed by each other's skills and became eager to continue fighting. Their duel spanned an entire year, and it was during that time that they ended up falling in love. Near the end of the duel Kanae talked about childrens names, declaring that she would bear Genjuurou's child. Jinbei Tsukishima was born soon after that. Later in the show it is revealed that Kanae was once an Insect Hunter and thus passed the ability to absorb the powers of the eternal Insect down to her son, Jinbei.

Plot[]

Abilities[]

Not much is known about Kanae's abilities but due to lasting a fight for a year long against Genjuurou Tsukishima, it seems that she is very powerful and a skilled swordswoman. Kanae is skilled enough to copy Genjuurou's techniques after seeing them only once.

Relationships[]

Jinbei Tsukishima[]

Kanae is said to be the mother of Jinbei as shown when Genjuurou Tsukishima was having a flashback of when they were young, although it is assumed that she left the world as Genjuurou had mentioned that she was gone after she had given birth to Jinbei.

Etymology[]

  • The name Kanae means "leaf" (叶).
