The Robert D. Dockendorff Scholarship is to be used to support one or more annual scholarships with preference for undergraduate student(s) who are actively involved in the Pride Alliance Center Community and/or has participated in Pride Alliance Center programming or affiliated/student/community organizations and demonstrate financial need. BIOGRAPHY

Robert (Bob) D. Dockendorff received an A.A. from Burlington Community College in 1958 and graduated from The University of Iowa in 1960 with a B.A. in Sociology. He joined the Naval Reserve and continued graduate studies at the University of Iowa for several years. In 1964, Mr. Dockendorff applied for Naval Officer Candidate School and was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was assigned to small boat operations in Vietnam. He remained in the Navy Ready Reserve and retired with the rank of Captain in 1988 after 25 years of service. In 1968, Mr. Dockendorff was hired by Pacific Maritime Association where he worked for 35 years, retiring as a Vice President in 2003. He lives in San Francisco, CA and continues working on transportation and infrastructure projects. He is also developing a series of documentary film projects. He is active with charitable organizations promoting social change.

AWARD

This fund aims to support one or more annual scholarships, with each award amounting to at least $5,000 per student ($2,500 per semester) for the 2024-2025 academic year.

ELIGIBILITY

Preference will be given to undergraduate students who fulfill the following criteria:

  • Applicants must have graduated from a school located in Iowa or Illinois.
  • Demonstrated involvement in the Pride Alliance Center community and programming, and/or affiliated/student/community organizations.
  • Students who demonstrate financial need and must be in good academic standing (have a minimum of 2.0 cumulative GPA).

SELECTION

Recipients will be determined by a selection committee made up of University of Iowa staff and faculty, in coordination with the Office of Student Financial Aid.
