Hello all, ever since I became admin, I've teamed up with wiki representative @Saunt3D and us two have been discussing how we could improve the wiki.
First of all, even though I did mention it a while back, the reason why the page count decreased from nearly 30,000 to 28,000 was because of the fact that there were nearly 2,000 pages that were 10 bytes or below. This means they were either empty, or had a stub or deletion tag. There are still plenty of really short pages, which is already bad for the wiki's SEO, but I guess it was best to deal with deleting those (practically) empty pages first.
We've also overhauled the wiki navigation to feature upcoming films, films that are in theaters, all-time great films, and some community pages. It's not exactly the final navigation, but it's much better and updated. Note that we're also updating the films featured on the navigation and main page.
Some other things we did include removing broken/double redirects, merge several movie infoboxes into one singular movie infobox on almost all pages, and created a rules page that must be followed, as well as a roles page.
Some other changes that we are considering:
Page structure layouts for movies, characters, film series, soundtracks, locations, crew, actors.
Page for how to become a staff on Moviepedia. We're going to open staff applications soon.
Stricter discipline through copying from Wikipedia verbatim, even with licensing (since this decreases our SEO). This is already a rule but some users keep doing it. A blocking policy will be added too.
Heritage month blogs that will feature articles about movies and characters both inside and outside Moviepedia, to strengthen our relationship with other movie wikis, users from that minority, and even Fandom themselves.
A Discord server dedicated to the wiki.
Improving the mobile main page, making its featured content similar to the desktop main page.
More mini-wikis on one-off movies, i.e. documentation of characters from one-off movies, and even go as far as to document fictional locations and items too.
Doing interwiki links with Moviepedias in other languages.
More partnerships with more movie wikis.
Maybe refining some discussions categories.
Maybe getting Movie Database to merge with us.
Getting the wiki to appear on the Fandom app.
