Strategic Communications
As one of our changemaking tools, strategic communications touches all aspects of our work as we strive to raise awareness, share the stories of real Missourians, increase impact, and build unifying messaging.
From Foundation-led communications campaigns to our blogs to our initiative-specific work, strategic communications play an integral role at MFH in a variety of ways. We work to change hearts and minds, share news about best practices in the field, amplify the voices of our grantees and partners, and position our experts to share their knowledge. Through our strategic communications work, we make the case that smart communication is critical to driving change on evolving health issues.
Here are just a few of the ways we’re using strategic communications to make a difference.
Content
By sharing MFH news, our successes and lessons learned, along with the unique viewpoints of our staff, we’re strengthening the philanthropic field. This includes content on our blog, but also op-eds and articles in newspapers and publications such as Grantmakers in Health.
Birthing Justice
With Black maternal health, we, along with other philanthropic organizations, recognized the potential of using a documentary as a vehicle for change. In support of “Birthing Justice,” we moved beyond research papers and long reports to draw in larger audiences and capture more people’s attention, and the end result was magical.
KFF Health News Midwest Bureau
We recognize the importance of health journalism and the infrastructure behind it. By collaborating with the well-respected KFF Health News to create the Midwest Bureau, we’ve elevated our long-standing work in the health journalism field, while also improving the environment for high-quality news. We knew there were important health stories from our region that weren’t getting the local and national attention they deserved, and creating this regional bureau was the perfect opportunity to do something transformative.
