A man was stabbed Monday afternoon at Dilworth Park, the second violent incident this month at the Center City plaza.
Officers responded to the scene just after 4 p.m. and found a 25-year-old man with a wound to his face, police said. Medics took him to Jefferson University Hospital, where he was being treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, according to the PPD.
Authorities said Azariah Ellerba, 34, was arrested at the scene, and he is expected to be charged with aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime and related offenses. His legal representation could not be identified through court records Tuesday.
The victim told investigators that Ellerba pulled out a knife while the two men were involved in a verbal dispute. The altercation reportedly happened in or near an entrance to the underground SEPTA concourse.
Less than three weeks ago, on Dec. 13, three teenagers were struck when a young person opened fire during a fight near the ice rink at Dilworth Park, which abuts City Hall. One of the victims, a 14-year-old boy, was seriously injured.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel described the park as ”one of the safest areas in the city of Philadelphia.”
