Wikimedians for Sustainable Development/Annual plan 2025

This is the annual plan for 2025 for the user group, decided on the december meeting. It is based on our Strategy. For each activity, goals are in bold font. The progress so far is documented here.

Like any first year of a new strategic cycle, 2025 will be a reset year, following a period of organic but largely unstructured growth.

0. Our overarching goal for this year is to mature as a user group and accurately scope initiatives to our current capacity, and to develop the operational processes that will support us in meeting the outcomes and goals of the strategy. - The user group is fully, or at least partially, compliant with all affiliate health criteria.

A. Whenever any affiliate or user wants to have support about sustainable development, they will reach out to the user group. (30)

  1. Engage with different affiliates and gathering info about potential collaboration - Jitsi meetings with 5 affiliates
  2. Talk with people/groups we know from different Wikimedia projects to see if they're aware of SDG's, if they already do work on SDG's and what they would want to do in the future. - Consulted with 3 active Wikiprojects on different language Wikipedias, documented on a Meta page
  3. Becoming more visible through posting on important dates (generally ones recognized by the UN) - 10 posts for these sorts of days
  4. Seek more input to the newsletters. - At least 6 new collaborators on the newsletter

  1. Improve the infrastructure - It is possible to tag activities in Metabase with the SDG goal, target or indicator they relate to and activities of different types (campaigns, events, etc.) are tagged and can be used as role models
  2. Raise awareness and promote self reporting within the Wikimedia ecosystem - At least 5 actors started reporting following our outreach

C. Make sure there are lists with topics for impact that the communities could use as to-do lists. (37)

  1. Create separate Wiki99 lists for each SDG, or for each level of the Wedding Cake model of SDG's. - At least 4 Wiki99 lists
  2. Lead cross-wiki activities for developing content together. - Solid communication between the Wikiprojects on 3 different Wikipedias, (related goal: A2)
  3. Create a ranked list of videos where translation of the subtitles would make them more accessible - There is a list with at least 100 videos that gives an overview of their translation status
  4. Make sure that lists are available as Community-defined lists - All lists with topics for impact are available this way
  5. Ensure that the Sustainable Development Goals property gains widespread usage on Wikidata - At least 100 items marked with SDG's with said property

D. Support the creation of diverse media types of content that could illustrate work related to the SDGs in multiple languages. (43)

  1. Identify (and use) relevant charts - At least 50 charts are in use in at least two languages each.
  2. Promote the SVG translate tool - At least 5 users reached through our outreach makes translatable SVGs.
  3. Make a podcast about SDG's and what we learned/got interested in while improving Wikimedia content about SDG's - 3 podcast episodes published
